Teachers having sex with students

I wanted to get a feel for the opinions that some people have. Basically, I am sure that a lot of us have noticed in the news lately that seemingly large numbers of students and teachers are having sexual relations. All over the country we are hearing news reports of this occurring, even at the high school I am an alumnus of, a teacher got fired for having sex with a student (he happened to be 18, so she didn't go to jail). Also, it seems this is far from isolated to male teachers with female students.

Here's the question: Is this phenomenon a recent occurrance, or, is the media covering it better/word gets out more in the age of technology?

I have leaned both ways and I would like to hear some theories on the matter.

Been going on since the beginning of time, I don't see a reason that its a recent phenomena. Although, it could be another symptom of the "adult-escent" problem in the US.

Uni teachers are pretty hot. At least some of mine are. We're all adults here, so there's no fearing underage laws etc. Don't really know what the policy on this stuff is at university.

In highschool it's a different story, and unless it would have been me and a hot female teacher I'm definately against it.

Even if you're 18 and your girlfriend is 17, you have to ASK HER PARENTS FIRST. Imagine that. Or was it 16... fuck I don't know. It was relevant at some point in my life.

i just find ironic that if the teacher was male and it was consented but he was caught he would never see the light of day again. but as handful of you say "IF the teacher was female and hot- its ok" all i can say it well it is a trade off- as there are things women can get away with and somethings men can get away with. in other words life is not fair and it will keep on rolling.

I wanted to destroy my German teacher back in the day. She seemed like the kind of person that would. Fresh out of college and always talked about how she never did anything but work. I wanted to stay after class some days and take her behind her desk. I was 18 at the time, so it would've been legal, but I'm sure she would've lost her job.

The only real problem is that if a woman does the same thing with a student that a man does, she gets a lighter penalty. They should get the same, and if the woman is hawt, she should get my punishment (wink wink).

in switzerland & germany (and most european countries) the age of consent is 16. It is also legal to have sex below that, but the partner(s) must be a maximum of 3 years of age away from the person. i.e. 15 & 18, 14 & 17, 10 & 13 is ok, 13 & 17 is not. I'm sure its exactly the same for the netherlands.
