The IRC channel of bf2s is indeed a fun place, worth a visit. I will now write some instructions for noobies, as the wiki site isn't that accurate..
1. Connecting to IRC
As said in the wiki: http://wiki.bf2s.com/site/getting-started-with-irc
To use IRC you will first need a client. The possibilities are to use a java based application, or download a program. The java client is indeed nifty for the start, but if you decide to become an active user on IRC, you should download an application.
Some links will follow here:
Java client:
Java client by viper007bond
Mozilla Firefox add-on IRC client:
ChatZilla
Advanced applications:
mIRC, 30 day shareware
Trillian
Pick one and follow the instructions below.
2. Connecting to a network
Now that you have a client, it's time to choose a network and a channel. Connecting in mIRC, XChat and Trillian are specified well in the wiki site, and pjirc is very easy to use, but I will now introduce ChatZilla, which I use.
To connect to bf2s channel in ChatZilla type these things to the text bar:
first:Then when connected type: Done, now let's move on to the chatting.
3. Chatting
Chatting itself is very easy, just type something in the text bar and press enter. The trick is to know some IRC commands. Some for different text, and for actual commanding.
3.1 Text typing:
In all the clients:
/me Lawlz I'm a nub ----> Yourname Lawlz I'm a nub
In ChatZilla:
First type: "/pref outgoing.colorCodes true"

%ULawlz I'm a nub ----> Lawlz I'm a nub
%RLawlz I'm a nub ----> Reverse Video text, I don't know what that means...
%OLawlz I'm a nub ----> Lawlz I'm a nub (normal text, not needed)
%C[number]Lawlz I'm a nub ----> Colored text
Color numbers are:

That will override it.
To view info w00f has stored, type:
