if he is pirating American software they have all the jurisdiction they need, and if I'm not mistaken the US and Australia are pretty cooperative so I don't think the cover of being "out of country" protects him from federal crimes against an american software company. both dice (canada) and EA (US) technically would have a case against him. In any case, as you stated, its a Federal crime there as well so it'd be more likely any american agency would simply cooperate with australian authoroties to have it handled 'in house' though they could request extradition if they really wanted to press it.

as for the guy who commented, the FBI has "bigger fish to fry." This is true, but not really. Let me explain. As a Federal Agency the FBI feels substantial pressure from executive and legislative political directives, in plain terms they feel pressure from lobbyists to take care of their house. There are entire divisions apon subdivisions devoted to computer crimes, and this is a lobby with a particularly large pocket book. Just look at all the recent debate and crackdowns on filesharing and copywright enforcement. The ones who care about a little rat like this kid don't have bigger fish to fry, because little rats like this are the only ones in the pond these particular guys are fishing for. Believe me they just LOVE to make examples... it can be hard to catch these bastards but when they do they love it, because then they can go back to the software and tech lobby and say "see look, we are watching your ass." When someone is as stupid and easy to catch as this kid "appears" to be (again I say this because I almost half believe he's just running his mouth to sound hard) its like Christmas for them.

I don't know whats really going on, but if they nailed him for piracy you can bet they would nail him right to the cross for everyone to see, and I don't think Australia would make to big a fuss about approving extradition if the US really truly wanted it. Hell I would think the idea of exporting criminals would appeal to Australians given their origin (this is a joke, I'm not calling you all criminals, just refering to the most interesting way in which England originally sought to occupy your wonderful country)

Just do a little google and you'll see guys like this, shit guys MUCH BETTER than this, are getting caught on a regular basis, no matter where they are from. Personally, though I feel sympathy for this kid (but only in the same way you feel sorry for a retarded three legged dog that eats its own crap because it can't tell the difference between it and dog food)... I wouldn't mind seeing him sent to a Federal "pound you in the ass" Prison. Lets see him try to see through THOSE walls.
