How about a modernized version of World War II where they all use modern equipments but fight the same battles and all that? Like the German forces will be pretty much using most of Heckler and Koch's weaponry like the G36 series, the MP5, the MP7, Panzerfaust 3 and stuff like that while the Allied theatre use maybe M16/M4, and the usuals. The Japanese will use their modern weapons. Now that would be pretty damned cool. Maybe also they can build in a customization system as well like Battlefield 2142 except you can change sights, add scopes, grenade launchers, red-dot aimpoint, EOTech, Laser pointers.

Ya that was what I was envisioning. But if they break out of this silly game-every-year cycle I'm hoping they'll use a new engine. I'm not sure what other historical period they could take it in...unless they did Battlefield in space. I think that would be a bit too much of a deviation from the gameplay formula.
