At least four Palestinians drowned in a tsunami of raw sewage on Tuesday when a water treatment reservoir burst, flooding a village in the northern Gaza Strip.
The deluge, triggered by the collapse of a septic system aid organisations had long warned was dangerously overburdened, submerged dozens of homes in the Bedouin farming village of Umm al-Nasr beneath a cesspool of foul-smelling effluent.

Two women, one more than 70 years old, and two toddlers aged one and two died in the flood. Fifteen people were injured and scores more are still missing, according to Palestinian medics.

Village children clung to wooden doors floating on the putrid waters as rescuers used boats to help the victims.
No surprise here.

All that's missing is the blame being placed on Israel.

If the Arab world cared for the Palestinians half as much as they hated the Jews they would fund the infrastructure in Gaza. A decent quality of life would help bring peace to the region. Instead, the money gets squandered on weapons and private militias.

This is the reason The US will not deal with Hamas.
Token efforts at health clinics and trash collecting don't make a city run.

But that's okay, the convenient scape goat known as Israel is there to blame.

That's just nasty.  I would seriously hate to die in a sea of poop.  But I wouldn't expect the Arabs to fund a better infrastructure because that is kinda like funding a potential enemy.

No, but alliances shift so frequently in the Middle East that it is plausible.  Hence the word potential.  As you said, much of the money gets wasted on military purposes, and due to many power struggles in the Middle East, you don't want to support someone (even if it's not for a military cause, the money a nation would donate would likely get misspent) to the brink of their military overpowering your own.  I think many of the Arab nations would sooner support their own country's wellbeing before they help anyone else, friend or foe.

I'll be honest, my knowledge of Palestine is limited compared to other regions of the world, so my assumptions may be incorrect.  I'm just making general assumptions based on recent turmoil in the Middle East.

Ironic that Israel is the country aiding in the clean up of this engineering disaster. Of course the media and Israel haters will overlook this and criticize them for something or other.

ATG, you take an article from the Bias Jerusalem times about Palestinians loosing there lives in an accident and just like that pile of pish paper, turn it into a "feel sorry for Israel" story. Give me a break man, do you actually read this drivel regularly? Not one mention of condolences for the people who lost their lives. Mostly likely ordinary people going about their daily lives.
Listen to yourself, your better than that..............., propaganda believing and spewing drone!!!

Building a proper sewage and water system takes decades of stability. Something that is not possible in the current climate. Israel illegally hold Palestinian lands and have a strangle hold over the whole country. The Palestinians are perfectly right to fight for their freedom and as long as this continues, all their moneys will go into freeing their people. Pull back to your legally defined borders then we are ok.

The Arab nations obviously don't love funding building infrastructure as much as some Americans enjoy funding Israel to blow it up........................................by the sound of things.

Maybe instead of other arab nations giving money to suicide bombers families, they could invest it in a good sewer system.  Just a thought.

Yeah, let them invest their little money in infrastructure which will be most likely destroy by Israel's bombs.

Well if you didn't have suicide bombers and rocket attacks, maybe the bombs would stop.

But then Israel would just go right ahead and destory that infrastructure because they don't want Palestine to prosper or become even remotely close to becoming a feasible sovereign nation....

And for the record: the arab league and Iran plough millions into humanitarian aid in Palestine. I believe Saudi Arabia are currently footing the bill for government salaries at the moment even.

This stinks.
Maybe if the arabs stopped with the anti-israel mud-slinging and helped build ways of dealing with crap like this, maybe the sewage systems would recycle stuff instead of just leaving it to sit and overflow.
A short sharp shower of shit indeed.

I think I'm out of words for excrement, and I can't think of any more puns.

If there's any constant in this ongoing conflict, it's the fact that the Muslims are almost equally as likely to turn on each other as they are on the Israelis.  Look at Iraq.

Aside from the massive funds we send to Israel every year, the lack of unity among the Muslims is one of the main reasons that Israel has stuck around.  I remember a prominent Imam remarking about Sharon (when he entered his coma) that he wished the Muslims had a modern leader as loyal to his people as Sharon was to his.  Many modern Islamist leaders have an ironic tendency to harm their own fellow Muslims more than any outside force.

That's only Shia against Sunni, and mainly motivated by years of opression under Saddam.

The Palestinians have the shit end of the stick (no pun intended). They are prisoners in their own homeland because of the Israeli's, whose interests it is in to keep the Palestinians down. How can anyone expect them to have fantastic infrastructure? They have to struggle with what they've got and on top of that any aid that does come their way is most likely to be diverted by extremists (who are usually well armed and hard to dissuade!) into funding for militia etc.

This is just a tragic story.
