Topic title says it all, looking for a good anti-virus. Anyone have experience with these two brands?

Trend Micro
BitDefender

Both sound pretty good.

I never used these brands, the only brands of AV I've used are McAffee and Norton.

For the past year I haven't been using AV on any of my computers.  I don't surf the internet that much, very rarely I would.  I don't open emails unless I recognize the sender.

I only use my internet for online gaming, oh and going on this forum and steam.

Good for me would mean light and effective.
  • Avast
  • Kaspersky
  • AVG
  • Sophos

In that order.

If you search, you will find lots of different topics on AV,

I personally made one a few months ago, and AVG Free was the clear winner.

However, the results vary from topic to topic, of course the results you get will depend on the userbase behind the AV, AVG might not be the best AV, people just use it because it is an average AV, and is free.

I was looking at getting Kaspersky.... but we want to install it on.....5 pcs.... and we dont know if we can do it on 1 license, like we could for Mcafee 1 year ago

my dad uses trend micro firewall/anti-virus but I think it's isn't flexable enough and is tough to master. Plus you have to buy new versions each year.

I've got to agree, AVG free and ZoneAlarm free = good overall protection for no money

I'm using Trend Micro PC-cillin 2007 atm, and its rather unobtrusive resource wise, however if you do have the choice go with Kaspersky or NOD32.

NOD32! one of the best out there. and it doesn't take any system resources from your computer either.

Hurricane, do you wanna spend some money on this? $50

I got Norton Internet Security 2007 now running and it's pretty good and easy to maintain.

But there is one point to it: N.I.S. eats up a lot of performance.

Nod 32 is technically the best.

Kaspersky is a close second.

Best AV.... QUIT SURFING PORN!!!

But seriously, I think a hardware-based firewall is more important than AV for home Internet security and something that is light on resources for AV is definitely a plus.  Use spywareinfo.com for free spyware scanning too for a supplement for the free products that might not include that feature.

Those results are unreliable as they do not take a decent look into detection stats.
