comments on beating a wife as means of therapy?
This is a flagrant example of the part of islam that i REALLY dislike. Their view of women.
I would like to beat the living beejesus out of that man in the grey suit for his ignorant comments. He makes it sound like it's the womans own fault if she gets beat up by electric cables if she hasn't made him dinner when he gets home from work. Does he even know how to cook for himself? That lazy bastard!
If a man should say something even close to this in swedish television, he would'nt even last a day without getting his ass kicked to hospital.

Eh -- most of the problems arise from traditions being carried into the practice of Islam. Its very difficult for men to argue against these blatantly oppressive measures especially when you have the Prophet Mohammad afford greater freedoms to his wives then what these men would like to portray. The man is clearly trying to argue based of what he interprets as a "right" to "light" beatings, but this is the problem with any text its going to be interpreted and in this case it so happens that the men don't see it the same way as women -- gee i wonder why .

Qatar was the staging post for the Iraqi invasions and held the joint chefs command center so the coalition had no problems with their record on womans rights and they were obviously right. The fact that these women can openly challenge this old way of thinking live on TV is a sign of changing times. Remember, that 100 years ago it was the norm for western men to also beat their wifes and treat them similarly, no votes etc.
Watched a documentary last night which said that domestic violence is the biggest cause of violent death to women by far, in the west. It showed how our government (UK) is severally letting these women down by not pursuing repeat offenders. We are in no position to judge.
The old interpretations of the Koran are slowly being put right, just as the bible. Remember that their were warrior popes who were murderous bastards and who used their own interpretation of the bible to warmonger. How Mary Magdalen was a prostitute and any reference of women being a force for anything other than producing children and being a mother was removed by Constantine.
Just as Muslim men over a thousand years have interpret it to provide them with power.

A Muslim woman with the Hijab and another with makeup on openly questioning this old ill conceived notion that Muslim men are judge, jury and executioner in their homes, live on TV is a move forward.
Don't, judge, don't interfere, leave them to it and Muslim women will complete their period of suffragette on their own.

Back on topic---SCREEEECH--- Interpretations of the teachings are changing. Most Bible followers don't believe in witches anymore but a scant 300 or so years ago it was entirely possible. The beliefs of a religion are usually adapted to suit how the person interprets them. That is how the terrorists claim to be blowing up in the name of Islam and such like, through adaptation of the word.
