Sultan is a Syrian-American psychiatrist (from an Alawi family). She resides in Los Angeles, California. She emigrated to the US in 1989, and is now a naturalized citizen. Although, I think she generalizes, maybe she's got a point there. Watch this 5 minutes video.
I really wish more Syrians thought in the way that she does.... I remember watching her speak at the Secular Islam Summit on the Glenn Beck Show. She makes some really good points.
The sad part is, I bet those guys debating with her did not even consider her words, they probably just dismissed her as a dumb woman who is a heretic.

She made some very valid points, but it still sounded at the end like she was naming religions rather than civilizations.
