So what do you guys think of this confession? I for one, find it hard to believe that after 4 years of imprisonment and god knows what torture, this guy just decided to talk. Not to mention the fact that I consider it a tad impossible that a single person was responsible for all those attacks.

I'd agree, I think it's a little bit strange.

I wouldn't be surprised if it made people admit to things they didnt do to make it stop.

My point exactly. There are plenty of "methods" (aka torture) that don't leave a mark and are not classified as torture in the secret CIA prisons he was held for 4 years... So why now? What does this preposterous confession serve?

He says he was responsible for those things. Notice they did not occur, or most of them anyhow. Coincedence?

Pearl family doesn't even believe the confession...

He also confessed to plotting to attack a bank that wasn't even in existence before he was imprisoned.. so yeh...

And if you know who Robert Baer is, then his opinion in Time, that the KSM confession was fake, should bring all the legitimacy you need.

Any person would tell interrogators what ever they wanted, if they were being tortured, and they had your kids.

Actually the technique they used is called Waterboarding and it's pretty messed up. People actually claim that it's not torture. I guess the question is when if ever is torture acceptable.

Here is information on Waterboarding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterboarding

kmarion, have you ever heard of the water tanks?
supposedly the tanks are filled with water the same temp as the body, the person is attached to some sort of floating device and placed in the tank. no lights, no sound......except when they start talking to themselves......then this little faint voice comes in over the speakers that are in the tank, telling the person to keep talking....or whatever they need to do to keep the person spilling their guts.
ive only heard about it, and from what i have heard there is some serious permanent mental damage that occurs alot.

Waterboarding is a terrible technique for torture, especially if you are trying to get logistical information.

"According to the sources, CIA officers who subjected themselves to the water boarding technique lasted an average of 14 seconds before caving in. They said al Qaeda's toughest prisoner, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, won the admiration of interrogators when he was able to last between two and two-and-a-half minutes before begging to confess.

"The person believes they are being killed, and as such, it really amounts to a mock execution, which is illegal under international law," said John Sifton of Human Rights Watch.

The techniques are controversial among experienced intelligence agency and military interrogators. Many feel that a confession obtained this way is an unreliable tool. Two experienced officers have told ABC that there is little to be gained by these techniques that could not be more effectively gained by a methodical, careful, psychologically based interrogation. According to a classified report prepared by the CIA Inspector General John Helgerwon and issued in 2004, the techniques "appeared to constitute cruel, and degrading treatment under the (Geneva) convention," the New York Times reported on Nov. 9, 2005.

It is "bad interrogation. I mean you can get anyone to confess to anything if the torture's bad enough," said former CIA officer Bob Baer.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA officer and a deputy director of the State Department's office of counterterrorism, recently wrote in the Los Angeles Times, "What real CIA field officers know firsthand is that it is better to build a relationship of trust … than to extract quick confessions through tactics such as those used by the Nazis and the Soviets.
...

This is the problem with using the waterboard. They get so desperate that they begin telling you what they think you want to hear," one source said."

The only people who say water boarding is not torture, are Fox News, and anyone else on the Conservative payroll, even the wiki article explains its illegality.

I saw the Baer article and it convinced me about the Pearl killing. Especially the fact that the video shows KSM didn't kill him! The other points Baer made don't seem so persuasive--he thinks the confession is bogus because KSM didn't explain a few important points? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

There were at least two US Senators watching over closed circuit TV when KSM confessed. I'd be interested in their opinions of the validity of his statement.

I heard he also rigged the election to get Bush elected. And dynamited the New Orleans levies. And leaked the name of the CIA agent.

DNA testing may ultimately prove that its HIS splooge on the blue dress, and that it was him that thrust the spear into the side of Jesus as he hung on the cross.

Shit, we might as well bring the troops home now as he this the guy that plotted everything.
