Actually myself - maybe it's something similar, excepting I also find immense value in the stories, myths, traditions, of all religions...Braddock wrote:
That's actually a quote from the movie 'The Ninth Configuration' (http://imdb.com/title/tt0081237/), which is actually quite in favour of the idea of a God but I liked that quote as it kind of sums up my attitude to the universe. There is so much in this life that is truly, truly amazing that to give some 'God-figure' all the credit is just too easy. Why is Mother Nature not treated like a God in the traditional sense? There is much more tangible evidence in this life of 'Mother Nature'. I worship science and reality, I find them amazing.topal63 wrote:
Just for your information, that is demonstrable thing, in the near future... super computers and chemical modeling, & physical experiments are being done right now - to that end. The abiogenisis problem is an experiment that is being done right now (5-15 years +/-, for results). If you think Evolution is something you either believe in or you don't. It isn't.Braddock wrote:
In order for life to have appeared spontaneously on earth, there first had to be hundreds of millions of protein molecules of the ninth configuration. But given the size of the planet Earth, do you know how long it would have taken for just one of these protein molecules to appear entirely by chance? Roughly ten to the two hundred and forty-third power billions of years. And I find that far, far more fantastic than simply believing in God.
But that in no way conflicts with belief in God.
And sorry for missing the awe-factor (I was doing some work at the same time, and missed that), I am in awe and wonder when contemplating the complexity of Evolution, Mathematics, Physics, the Cosmos...
My only criticism of God conceptually is the knowing it part. It irks me to think people so easily claim knowledge of the mystery of all-being. That they could possible conceive of a reality for transcendence & what that is, or worse to claim certainty of / or in "faith" ... To me it is best explained as the unexplained; the effect of effects that is the source of all things - we seem infinitely distanced from and yet immediately and instantaneously connected to.
