Topic pretty much says it all. A friend of mine owns this coin and I thought about buying it if I could find out about what it is worth. He said he found one on E-bay going for around $300 USD. He said he also thought it was from the Roman time period of Nero. I know very little about old coins like this so here are a few pics. The color isn't right in the pics. The coins look more the color of an old nickel and not at all gold looking. Any help can be repayed with Karma
I'd suggest doing a quick search on google for Coin Collecting Forums as forums are always good for information and it's easier to identify.

Is there a university or college near you that has a strong world history department, or archeologists?

send it to me. I'll identify it for you
It's a billon tetradrachm coin from Alexandria in Egypt from around 64/65 AD - the time of Nero. However I remember those tetradrachm coins as being silver in colour not bronze... I could be wrong though, it has been over a year since my last Classical Studies class.
The design through is definitely the aforementioned coin, and the coin itself is definitely from that era, (that crowned dude is Nero.) The colour is probably irrelevant as quite a few coins were made out of any kind of metal that could be found.

These coins are probably the most common archeological treasures. I'd say around 300-400 dollars US.

You should be on the one show with the people that tell other people how much their stuff is worth.Ty wrote:

Go to the classics/archaeology/anthropology department of your local university and they should be able to give you lots more information.thareaper254 wrote:

Back side says OKRA.
Greek.
Greek.
I assure you that it's from Alexandria in Egypt ATG. It reads AVTOKPA, (or it should, it's worn out on this coin,) which is Greek, but remember that Alexandria was technically a Greek, (or more Macedonian actually,) city.
As to the Antiques Roadshow thing, I'm not that good. I just studied Alexander the Great in 7th form Classics in 2005 and he of course founded Alexandria. I then looked in one of my books to find the design. I can't pull this crap from the deep recesses of my skull cavity like those old Antiques guys can.

The coin is more of a tarnished silver color than it is bronze like you said. I took a knife and put a small scrape on the edge of the coin and it is a bronze or brass color under the tarnish (more like the pics that I took)
I have found some on the net thanks to TY. So far only found one site with prices around $50-$70 USD.
First link shows 4 coins and the second link is directly to one of the coins on the first link. The one I have seems to be in better shape than these on the net.
