Well, just curious to see how everyone feels about it. Quite frankly I can't stand it.

I think that Affermitive Action is racist.
What?
Affermitive action is racist. It says that your race is not as good as other races, because of this we have to make laws to give you a chance to be equal.
the fact it is a law is stupid, there should be education or something instead.
Explain, public schooling in the US is avalible for everyone. We start out on the same level playing field, but affimative action says that because you are of a certain race then the government should provide laws to allow you to get a job, or go to college. Not only is this racist against the races it was designed to protect, but it is also racist against other races. For example, there may be a very smart white guy who does not get into a college because some black guy who is not as smart as he is got in. Why? Because of affirmative action, the school has to have a percentage of black people in their college. Even though the white guy may have scored higher on the ACT or SAT, he is not allowed in because of his race. This is racism that the laws were suppose to protect people from.75345 wrote:

I personally think that any application for jobs or colleges that ask you your race, this includes things like government forms, should be illegal. That way the playing field is equal. Yes, affirmative action was a benefit in the past, when people would not hire you because of your race, but today it is not needed.
It's good of the govenrment to enforce laws that say if someone walks into a job interview you HAVE to take note of the colour of their skin.
It doesn't work and is by far more detrimental than any benefits that may arise. Schools should not be forced to accept less academically motivated students to fill quotas, nor should businesses be required to hire lesser skilled or motivated people to fill quotas.
Its racist. Why not have assistance based on socio-economic instead? It'll help those in need and won't discriminate based on race.
Care to put a link or something in the OP that explains what it is? Remember not everyone on here is from the States.
it is like every other governemnt program.
if you don't need it, you don't like it; if you need it, you like it.
if you don't need it, you don't like it; if you need it, you like it.

Malloy must go
It's served its purpose, but now its just gotten out of hand. The racial quotas, benefits for minorities simply because they are minorities and what not is ridiculous. As one article I've read on the topic put it "Since you can't make one race inferior to the others, you can't make another race superior." or something along those lines.
It's totally racist. Minorities bitch about wanting "equality", affirmitave action is far from it. People should be hired or admitted to a school based on experience or GPA or whatever. Whoever is most qualified, regardless of the color of their skin. That's equality. Hiring somebody that is less qualified than another person, just because they are black or hispanic or whatever is racist. Period. If you are a moron, and don't have the smarts or experience to get a job or get into school that's not my fault.
Yes I'm white, and I agree that it is racists. (If you aren't of an ethnic race)dubbs wrote:

I think of it this way - What's more racist? Hiring someone because they're white and male or hiring someone because they're not white and male?
I hate it. It's intentions are noble but hypocritical in that it is racist in itself. Race should never be a factor when choosing candidates for something. Qualified persons of a certain race being ousted for a lesser qualified person of a minority race? No.
Public schools actually offer a decent educations. Perhaps not the best, but still decent. Public education is available to everyone, and it's from then on that people should begin to work harder to get the same qualifications as others.
I'd say mandatory preschool or something of the sorts is a much better solution.
