Try googling the term "floodable length" - you'll find it's generally on the order of 20% or less of a ship below the main deck that can be flooded before it sinks. Besides, torpedoes don't kill by flooding - they break the keel of the ship and the weight of the ship does the rest - (i.e. it breaks your shit in half)
