- Imagine a World where Muslims went door to door converting people
Converting someone is like a god discussion here. It's awful hard to change somebody's mind once they have developed an opinion.
No, he's suggesting you to think a little less one-dimensionally. Some people prefer the structure and tradition that Islam promotes. Of course, this can be offered by other religions, but conversion is often an opportunistic thing. Religious conversion preys on people that are insecure in their current perspective or need a crutch of some sort due to financial or emotional desperation.Major_Spittle wrote:

The people that Muslims convert to Islam are the people who want and or need the rigid structure in their lives. These are the easiest people to convert to that type of religion. I would think a happy go lucky all the world loves you would be more likely to convert to the Hindu religion. To convert to Jewish faith you have to have the interest in it, they don't go out and ask you to join. Christians are well, they activelly go out and try and convert people and we all know that.
Good thoughts.
We see this kind of opportunism in a lot of missionary work. While it is good that some people are willing to visit poor countries and help them with basic needs, to expect them to convert to your religion in a rational way is impossible when the circumstances so heavily weigh in the favor of the missionaries.
They may think they're bringing spiritual hope to these people, but it's rare for them to actually convert people out of a genuine spiritual interest. Most of these poor people just want a roof to live under along with some food and healthcare.
In the First World, conversion is more of a sales game. Find someone easily persuaded or insecure, and they are much easier to convert than someone comfortable with their current way of life.
This being said, I would assume the Five Pillars of Faith might appeal to some people, when it comes to selling Islam to a non-believer.

I think the missionaries were successful simply because people were uneducated back then.
There would need to be a cleanup each month to collect the dead bodies or else they would decompose and smell up the joint. Something like christmas tree pickup in January

And?... Sweden is one of the most secular countries in the world, and personally, that leads me to believe that they are generally more rational than most of the world.Major_Spittle wrote:

Klassekock's assumption is probably true as well. Ignorance and poverty make it much easier for people to convert other people to any religion, not just Christianity or Islam.

Seriously though, why does it matter to you that only some people should post? If you want an honest and accurate perspective that is specifically Islamic, post in an Islamic forum.
Most of us here are probably either Christian, agnostic, or atheist.

Nonetheless, what were you trying to prove with this thread? That Islam doesn't have any bragging points to use for converting people?
I'll be the first to admit that I don't care for much of the Middle East's issues with extremism. The kind of shit we're watching happen in Iraq is rather depressing, but I guess people of any religion would react insanely if they were really poor and badly educated.
In Iran and Saudi I believe that people convert so they can have rights and not end up being repressed.Turquoise wrote:

Get caught with a Bible in Saudi Arabia, or walk down the street doing the rosary(sp).
Iran is more Progressive for the moment, but could round up all non-believers and execute them at the whim of a couple Clerics. Try living there knowing that.
I can imagine Cristians, Jews, and Hindus promoting their religion face to face with people that have other beliefs. Muslims seem to be less tolerant of people that disagree with their beliefs and I have not a clue what they could say positive about their religion? Look at the world and the news stories involving Muslims, what the hell could they site as the good that their religion does in the world or the peace that it promotes?
Not at all, this was the type of people easily converted. If you are born into a religion or have a government impose a religion on you then it's going to be happen. It's not that I'm saying they need it, it's just those types of people are more easily swayed.Major_Spittle wrote:

Who says they don't, Major Spittle? Just because you've never seen it happen doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
And how different would it be? Apart from other religions?

Well, if any religious group of people came to my door and wanted to try to convert me to their religion, this is what would happen:

Actually, this already happened quite awhile ago. Why do you think the middle east is primarily muslim? The entire middle east, with the exception of a small part of Saudi Arabia, was once Christian. The muslims then went door to door, either putting everyone to the sword who wouldn't convert, or making them submit to becoming Dhimmi. ( second class citizens ). Dhimmitude continues to this day.

DHIMMI HOTSPOTS:
Pakistan: anti-Christian legislation
Iran: Systematic oppression of the Bahai community
Sudan: Murder and enslavement of Black Africans
Saudi Arabia: Apartheid for all non-Muslims
Indonesia: Terrorizing of Christian minorities
Egypt: Oppression of Coptic Christians
Bangladesh: Terrorizing of Hindu and Christian minorities by Islamic radicals
DHIMMI: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
7th-21st century. The notion of Dhimmitude, originating in the 7th century, still applies today to non-Muslims under Islamic rule—whether Jews or Christians, whether in Saudi Arabia or in Sudan. Dhimmitude began in 628 CE when Mohammed and his forces conquered the Jewish oasis at Khaybar. They massacred many of the Jews and forced the rest to accept a pact ("Dhimma") which rendered them inferiror to their Muslim conquerors. Over the centuries, the ideology of Dhimmitude expanded into a formal system of religious apartheid.
Institutionalized apartheid. In Shari’a law, there are official discriminations against the Dhimmi, such as the poll-tax or jizya.
No legal rights. Jews may not testify in court against a Muslim and have no legal right to dispute or challenge anything done to them by Muslims. There is no such thing as a Muslim raping a Jewish woman; there is no such thing as a Muslim murdering a Jew (at most, it can be manslaughter). In contrast, a Jew who strikes a Muslim is killed.
Humiliation and vulnerability. Jews and Christians had to walk around with badges or veils identifying them as Jews or Christians. The yellow star that Jews had wear in Nazi Germany did not originate in Europe. It was borrowed from the Muslim world where it was part of the apartheid system of Dhimmitude.
Conditional protection. The protection of the Dhimmi is withdrawn if the Dhimmi rebels against Islamic law, gives allegiance to non-Muslim power (such as Israel), refuses to pay the poll-tax, entices a Muslim from his faith, or harms a Muslim or his property. If the protection is lifted, jihad resumes. For example, Islamists in Egypt who pillage and kill the Copts do so because they no longer pay their poll-tax and therefore are no longer protected."

Actually, Christianity came about 700 years before Mohammad. doink.
No. You'll have the writers of the 1st Amendment spinning in their graves. Freedom of expression and such is ambiguous, but religion is clearly spelled out.ATG wrote:
