Enemy fire downs US helicoper
IEDs get a bigger punch

Is this solitary issue going to slow the uphill battle that is Iraq? Troops are on the brink of refusing to drive in humvees, because the thin armor stops nothing, and becomes a shrapnel cage inside once its hit.

That was the problem 3 years ago.

Troops now are preferring helicopter travel over land, because of this issue.

Some tradeoff.

I suspect that the helicopter problem will only get much, much worse. Greater morale amongst militants means more people willing to wield an RPG vs. a helicopter, or a stick of C4 vs. a convoy.

thoughts?

Not very practical to get everywhere but neither is a Helo.

Not very practical when everyone inside burns alive, either.

edit: referring to the story some time ago, when 5 people burned to death after their APC hit a roadside bomb.

The amour is much stronger on a Bradley bud.
I'm sure it has and can happen but the probability is considerably lower than that of a Humvee.

I've said it before; if I was commander with a free hand I would announce that one block in a Shia and one block in a Sunni area had been selected for artillery barrage and destruction when the next IED went off.
Random.
Harsh but effective.

One might assume that it would be effective, but the other reality of harsh punishments would be angry uprisings. Considering the nature of the American troops in Iraq, the only result would be an entire people attempting to kill American soldiers.

With all the money we've been wasting on contractors, we could actually improve the lives of our soldiers by spending less on Halliburton and more on things like body armor and better vehicles for our troops.

Don't expect this coming from an administration being manipulated by Cheney, though.

Real power players?  You mean like Halliburton, KBR, Titan, CACI, Boeing, Raytheon, etc....

Trust me, I know who the players are, and they also include Cheney and Rove.  It's not hard to figure out who they are when you follow where the money goes.
