Wow. This thread sucks just as bad, if not worse than the rap thread, and I fucking hate rap. You guys listen to some shitty ass, rotten crotch rock and roll.
Lead singers that "growl" are to rock as gangsta's that rap about rims and spinna's are to rap.
Also, it takes NO effort, literally NO EFFORT, to sit there and thrash a guitar like that and make a single, simple hook. This kind of garbage is the reason rock is on a decline.

Well, its a good thing that I don't listen to the shit you're talking about. the only straight up rock i bother with is classic rock, the stuff i've shown so far has not been an attempt at rock.Cougar wrote:

Anyone up for some alternative rock?
That's Thee Silver Mount Zion live, playing "Take these hands and throw them in the river". You either love it or hate it.

I add this for the old(ish) times. I love this song. Corgan is trying his best to get the Pumpkins back together but I don't think he'll be able to get the same lineup.
Try not to be so critical Cougar. Your taste in music seems very narrow regardless of the fact that the videos you posted are examples of great hard rock/metal. I kind of understand about the growling, I myself don't like the roaring vomit sound that some metal lead singers make - are we talking about the same thing?
Hey, does anyone here like The Living End?

so what the point of this thread? You always get outvoted on the radio selection? hip hop as you call it is more underground by nature. what you dont like is the pop produced for suburbia. please know what it is you hate before you make blanket statements. k thx.
and i would like to hear 1 person here put together 1 compelling verse that equal a true hip hop artist (talib kweli) skills. I understand the annoyance with the mass produced 'music' but I think deciding you HATE an entire genre because you don't like certain 'artists'...well thats just dumb.
/steps off of soap box, puts on 'bring the noise' and smokes a bowl.

I am critical. I am a firm believer in the fact that, the reason we have shitty music today is because the music market is flooded by no-talent assclowns that in turn, open the door for more no-talent assclowns. It happens with every popular genre, rap, metal, rock, country, reggae, R&B etc etc etc. For example:Ty wrote:

Alice in Chains was good, great even. They were original and had a unique sound. Now, since they are popular as fuck back in the day, record producers decide they need more acts like them to sell records and make them money. Then a couple of "good but not as good as" bands are released, such as Days of the New. Then as time progresses you have more and more bands that are signed and released because they sound similar to the original band or have some sort of gimmick that tailors to that target audience's fancy. Then you start getting bands like Puddle of Mudd, Tool, Creed etc etc that are really just shit bands with 1 or 2 outstanding members. Then that in turn kicks off a whole new era of mediocre artists, bands and follow ups, all the while new talent goes undiscovered because the market is flooded with shit.
So yeah, rock definitly had its peak in the 90's and early 2000's. Anything that comes out anymore is pretty much a pile of shit as far as I'm concerned. Everything has been EMOtised and made generic. I mean the band names aren't even original anymore. For instance you had The Beatles. These guys that wore nice suits and were clean cut guys and yadayadayada. Now we have The Killers, The Hives, The Vines, The Stripes, The Stills, The Unicorns, The Buttfuckers, The "We're a shitty band like all the rest".
Don't even get me started on the whole "sensitive rock" bullshit. Death Cab For Cutie? Fuck YOU. My Chemical Romance? Fuck you too. My Bleeding Vagina? Please.
Also I was talking about the growlers as well, so it appears we are in agreement in at least on field. Also, Smashing Pumpkins rock face too. Forgot about them.
Ohh and as far as the whole narrow minded music thing goes...

I hate rap and hip hop because they steal samples from techno all the time. Planet Rock (1983) = a 1977 techno song and a 1981 techno song combined, and from the same artist. Fergalicious (2006)? That shitty song has another sample from the same band mentioned earlier and it's from a 1981 song. How sad. 25 years later they finally realize it's good music and then decide to ruin it by stealing that sound effect.
And I know someone's gonna say, "oh but part of hip hop and rap is to sample other artists and blah blah". Good for you, you're only admitting how unoriginal hip hop and rap is.
A lot of people say all techno sounds the same. Congratulations, you can't appreciate music. I'm sorry your ears don't function as well as other people's.
Now I'm not some techno fanboy, I enjoy all kinds of music, even a few (only a few) hip hop and rap songs. But at least I'm not ignorant to say [insert genre that I dislike or a vast majority of other people dislike] all sounds the same.

Keep in mind, this isn't a flaming.
Well, I'm not going to lie, I've got a bit of respect for you Cougar, and as someone who listens to bands most people haven't heard of, I can see where you're coming from. Now, you can hate all the music you want, and because it's your opinion, I can't argue with you over it, but just because you don't like it does not mean there isn't talent there. I listen to just about everything, except hip hop, rap, pop and country (all are extremely useless in my opinion), and I feel that there is good shit in each genre, if you can find it. I dislike a lot of the shit you put up, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape over it. So what, i fucking hate it; it doesn't necessarily mean it sucks. FYI, 'The ----' type bands are all over the place and are here to stay. I listen to The toasters, the suicide machines, the bouncing souls, the get up kids, the tossers, the casualties, the transplants, the aquabats, the virus, the mighty mighty bosstones, the pietasters, the skatalites, the slackers .... etc.

All I can say is that Green Day and Fall Out Boy are complete GARBAGE. Change it to Green Shit and Fall Out poop, that's more like it.
I prefer some industrial rock, like RAMMSTEIN:
