and well I'm kind of a noob (to spare you the aggrivation and the time of saying it), is there anything I need to watch out for in SF thats different in BF2 vanilla?

- So I just got SF...
night vision, teargas/gas mask, grapling hook, zipline, night maps, and lack of servers (with decent ping for me atleast)
1. On Iron Gator, you may need to turn down your video settings to avoid lag.theit57 wrote:

2. The palace on Warlord is a haven for claymore spammers ... lots of wall-glitching there as well.
3. Because of the new equipment, expect snipers and shooters at most any position ... such as in balconies.
Use the ATV's to get around, their fast..avoid confronting the tankwhores(unless AT) and take bases.
The palace on Warlord is top fun, many corridors and stairwells to hide/get around, lots of nading,flashbanging,grappling..
The night maps(if u can find a server worldwide) are IMO the coolest BF maps, infantry based, mad atmosphere(scary), and have a "real" feel to them(play them at night if possible), submarine bays, abandoned asylums, deserted airport/runways....the cliff stairs in Devils perch have a "Hitchcock" feel to them!
If anyone can hear me (looking up), please provide more night map servers.......

I love SF, its a nice change from the original. Night maps take a bit getting use to.
Infantry-based tactics with vehicle support.
Actual teamwork.
New toys.
People EVERYWHERE.
Few servers.
Vengeful chopper pilots. (kill them once or hurt them a few times and they WILL hunt you down and kill you repeatedly)
Small, fast, fragile vehicles.
Also, you will actually be rewarded for playing with your new toys. Use them repeatedly and you get badges!
As well as being able to climb up places people don't expect, circumvent claymore traps, and drop people off ropes.

I think everyone here has mentioned everything....seriously though...play SF for a little bit and Vanilla BF2 will seem easier to you. I think SF has some very well-designed maps to the point that it balances the vehicles versus infantry, so groundpounders will like it even with vehicles turned on.
The big one, like orange said, is to expect enemies anywhere, and also use your new gadgets to your advantage.
Oh, and if you play Anti-tank, the RPG is unguided, but the armor you're targeting won't get the lockon signal, so you can be pretty sneaky with it.
If you like to fly helicopters, the SF choppers handle much differently than the ones in regular BF2, so you might want to practice with those.
Hope to see you on the battlefield!

more hackers!!! just kidding! the learning curve is very low. even the maps don't take long to remeber.theit57 wrote:

all of the above...
play 25 players map's..you'll have time to discover...get in a full VOIP squad...use proper equipment depending the situation you're in... spawn on your SL...enjoy...

A specific thing you learn is to never use someone else's zipline, since they will invariably take it out from under you, and laugh as you fall to your death.
Sf just has better players & a more mature atmosphere. I usually only play on sf, I only join on vanilla if I have a friend in the server.
Special Forces is about 2 times better than Vanilla.
Just more things to do.. When you go back to vanilla.. you will be wondering where your grapple is
Great add on thou and highly recommended

Vehicles:
Jetskis, civilian cars, quadbikes, 6-wheeled buggies and best of all: forklift trucks!
Weapons:
Teargas is hardly used, but if it is, I always forget my gasmask.
Flashbangs can be evil if you have your nightvision turned on.
Grappling hooks allow you to climb buildings, zipline to quickly get down or move to another roof.
Also, the buildings on the maps have much more walkable rooms to hide and there are also interactive things like elevators and lockable gates.

Hello to all,
I WANT A NEW MAP FOR SF !!!!
Maybe in the last patch...
KF.

Also, if you are a chopper pilot - learn where the new TV views are for the gunners.
For SF choppers, the TV view is BELOW the gunner view, not above like their vanilla counterparts.

Iron Gator NOT FAIR map ...Grappling hooks,Ziplines NOT in Iron GATOR ... NO arty and vehicles for CO ( Boatdrop ) In fact its a silly place (when playing as MECSF ) nothing special about it ...theit57 wrote:

Now WHY would MEC want to capture a Silly looking ship in DAYTIME ????? this map should have been a NIGHT MAP !! Most server 's who run this map have such UNBALANCED gameplay in it that if you play MECSF with say 14 teammembers the USMC would have like 22 players cause NOBODY WANTS TO BE PWNED (owned by the other ) Stupid players battle each other for the gunship Hind and the transport chopper is ... well IT IS SLOW !!
Boats can be used to get towards ( i say towards ) the carrier .. only to be blow away by an SRAW or TV guided missile from the Apache gunship ... D'oh ! I dont say you CANT win as MECSF
Warlord ... love it !!! SAS vs Insurgents
Ghost Town ... YEAH !!! SAS vs Spetnaz
Mass Destruction ... Excellent map ! ... almost NO server that runs it ... 2 BAD Spetnaz vs Rebels
Surge same as Mass
Leviathan ... FORKLIFT!! SEAL vs MECSF
Devil's Perch SEALS vs MECSF ... DARKNESS !!!! YEAH !!!!
Night Flight SAS vs Insurgent ... nice map
Goodluck buddy
Play Ghost Town, it is by far my favourite map. I much prefer Special Forces to Vanilla tbh.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
Ghost, Leviathan and Devils Perch are best SF maps. If you think different - youre nóób <joke>
Not true your hind pilots are essential to winning as MECSF. If they take out apache and Essex your chances go up dramatically.Tjasso wrote:

If they're just chopper whores with no idea on what it takes then yes MECSF will have a hard time.
The UAV is tricky on the Iron Gator as it covers 3 levels.
Overall you don't have to worry about jets in SF
BF2:SF>BF2
Also, you can easily destroy the UAV in seconds with the CIWS on the Essex.JaggedPanther wrote:

That made me laugh because it has happened to me lots of times. I was in a squad last week on warlord and another guy and myself were following our squad leader and we all used his zip line, so there are people out there that are nice and wait for their squad to get off the line.-TL- wrote:

I always radio "need pickup" like 5 times as I get on it...Strngs012 wrote:

never been dropped yet...
Once I accidentally did it to somebody which is sad because I wanted them to follow me (they didn't die though, whew)
And yea going back to vanilla is annoying because of no ziplines and grappling hooks, i mean you CANT GET ANYWHERE! [/rant]
Tear gas is great, even if you don't gas them, it gives better coverage than smoke grenades
