BF2S Forums hack or bug?

That is a hack without a doubt.  I hope this cheating git gets a global ban not just a stats reset.  If that was my server he would be banned as well. The admins are absolutely right to ban him.

How fucking useful is it anyway? Ok hack/bug/glitch whatever, is he going to pwn your ass with his UBER distance hack, no.

Sorry Equalizer but you should READ other peoples posts before giving your opinion because you obvoiusly have no clue.

I best back up my findings otherwise i'll get overwhelmed by smart arse idiots.

Notice on the screenshot that his crosshair is OVER the enemy target and as normally the target shows his name but ALSO the distance marker. ALSO note that the ammo bag has a distance marker with 2m difference (this kinda justifies that the distance marker on the player is valid) . IF it was a hack of some kind, the markers/player names would be noticable through walls, just like when you look for friendly units only highlighted red. But since this "PB screenshot" only takes shots of certain views of the client side, you wouldnt be able to come up with a valid conclusion. BUT, since i have personally experienced this before and it normally only happens when someone gets revived and you have your crosshair on them (normally only as medic), its very unoticable since u'll be trying to shoot them anyway.

And equalizer, yes you do get some like you say the distance marker through a wall, but this particular screenshot doesn't show the marker through a wall does it? If it did then my arguement will be for null.

a friend just did a little research on it.

it is definitely a bug

he tested it on dalian single player and the distance tag just appears in the moment of death for a very short moment.

so the proof is not given - and a new bug is revealed!

Well researched well proven.  What a laff.  How you defend cheating is beyond me. Cheaters only defeat themselves.

I cannot beleive that this thread has got this far.
Is anybody here an experienced admin???? A lot of you are and this one is easy to call.
Well I am, I have created a new account for this post ( for personal reasons) but a lot of you know who I am and know that I know what im talking about. I have played BF2 and adminned 3 servers since the release day of BF2 in the UK and check the PB screenshots on a regular basis aswell as visiting well known hack sites to keep an eye on what lame asses are using.
There is a hack out that puts a distance marker next to the enemys name aswell as the enemys name being seen anywhere on the map including through walls.
I have tried and tested the video that [pt] KEIOS posted and a distance marker is visible for a split second when you SHOOT an enemy but dissapears again instantly. But if you look at the screenshot posted there is no gunfire at all, no muzzle flash and no bullet smoke or markings around the enemy. The player in question is 100% using a hack and if that enemy was stood behind a wall he would still be able to see his tag and distance marker. Here is a screenshot of a player I have previously banned using the exact same hack. The player admitted afterwards that he was using a hack. His stats never got reset as he was let off with a warning (pfft) I would have castrated him.

OK THE SCREENSHOT BELOW
FIRSTLY notice that there is an enemy to the left and to the right of his crosshair yet enemy tags are only supposed to appear when your crosshair is on the enemy.
SECONDLY notice that there are DISTANCE MARKERS next to the enemy tags like the screenshot in question.
THIRDLY note that the enemy on the left is behind a solid pillar so his tag shouldnt be visible.
This is a popular hack and you can contest it all you want but your lame ass friend has been using a hack. Please dont insult admins intelligence by crying its a bug when its blatently not, the admin in question should keep the ban firmly in place and also submit the screenshot to the relevant bodies.

ok, THAT screenshot looks more valid.
The other screenshot posted previous had as one would say "had very bad timing".

Thanks for clearing it up TutTutPly (for the more through analysis) and KEIOS (for the vid), since i dont have viewable evidence, just experience from it happening.

the reason the rank does not show up in the video is because it is a single player/ coop game, so there is no ranks.

However in game i assure you ranks show up, as it is one of the things i hate, as it is pointless. I do not need to know if the SL is a PFC, or a general.

I also do not believe it is a hack because if you look at how faded the text - i.e. the distance and the player tag. Now watch the video the guy made, the guy has just been killed, and the text, and distance meter is been shown, it is incredible timing, the split second between the "kill", the "death" and the screenshot in the middle of it all.

Why did the muzzle flash not show? because for the majority of the time that the distance marker is shown, there is no muzzle flash. Watch the video again, you will see. When it comes to the point of the kill... keep pausing it... you will pause it without a muzzle flash more times than you do with a muzzle flash.

this is all about respect for others. only because, you didn´t know about this bug, doesn´t mean, it´s not existing!

and research was done. i asked many people from punksbusted.com, in another big german forum, a level2 admin from BF2RS (which only laughed at that so called proof) and we reconstructed the possible situation this way and my mate did the ingame testing and video. this is enough research for me, if a bug is reproduceable.

maybe YOU should give it a try and test it on your pc? what, if the distance marks also appear on your screen? omg! then you have to report yourself, for being a low life cheater!



EDIT:

to all those, who still don´t believe it: test it by yourself!

- play singleplayer dalian plant
- choose medic kit
- shoot with single shots on the enemy to have time to see them die

you will see the distance mark for a second - in the moment, the opponent falls. the screenshot i posted, is bad timing + this bug
the other pbscreen is a proof for a hack.

there are hacks that produce the exact same effect, but in all likelyhood its not a hack
