ok guys how about we all re install this game patch to 1.61 and play some midway island!! i miss 1942 so much mainly the naval battles.. they really need to remake this game with at the very minimum 2142 graphics.. hope fuly it will be ramade with dx 10 and look amazing but we will till be able to drive thows dam subs and ships!
I just looked on the offical web site there is only 794 people play vietnam and there in 2700 still playing 1942 wow just wow

Those maps were made so well. Midway was a favorite of mine for the naval combat (Prince Of Wales FTW) and the fighter combat was more fun also.

I personally haven't played 1942, but have noticed that a lot of people reminisce about how fun that game was. I saw recently that there was a mod coming out for half-life 2 called 'black mesa'. The mod is a remake of the origainal half-life game, with the source engine. If someone could remake 1942 with the recent BF engine, it would probably be very popular.

I doubt it. 1942 is praised because it's so much different and better than BF2
A bit of BF1942 was brought into BFV as the Official WW2 Mod (free, by the way). The BF guys didn't seem to be inclined to do much extra for BF2ers other than give us Jalalabad. I cannot foresee much of anything official being given to you BF2142ers. It's all so very sad, because I did enjoy the naval combat in BF1942 and BFV:OWW2.GR34 wrote:

Bringing some elements of 1942 and V into BF2 in an official manner has been on my wishlist for awhile, though I've never had much hope of it ever happening, considering what they're charging for these woefully inadequate "booster packs."

OK I'm here to tell you you can't go back. I'm sorry. I never un-installed 1942 and recently fired it up. Trust me you will not be able to deal with it. I used to love it. I still have the demo. Unplayable. Aside from the keyboard changes (combinations of the F-keys were how you used to call out commands instead of the coma rosa) the tactics are entirely different and the graphics just plain blow when compared to BF2. I'm not putting 1942 down, but there is a reason there are only 2000 or so people playing it, and that is because their computer can't play BF2
I actually miss the function keys. Once you remember the order in which to use them, it was quicker and more efficient than monkeying around with a rose that fills the center of your screen. And BFV actually allowed you to alter your skin and model details, even with the same class. In BF2, infantry occupations seem to be firmly segregated into specific races. White guys get all the technical stuff, and black guys just carry guns and ammo.An Enlarged Liver wrote:

I like BF2 and 1942 more than 2142. I still play 1942 most often with my friend. The majority of people who play BF2 now suck. The past few times I got on a BF2 server I got first place. I guess all the good people are playing 2142 or 1942.
Everything works together better in 1942. Snipers are actually useful because the other guns aren't accurate all the way across the map. No dropping med packs for instant heals. No lock on missiles in planes or on anti air. I will always like 1942 the most.
Edit: Yeah FH is an awesome mod and in the days of 1942 map packs were free so the game has a mess load of maps.

bf1942 is the best, midway island is the best map..i love it when you and a friend are in planes flying for ages trying to find their fleet and then spotting it so all the other planes can bomb the shit outta them, the dog fights are good too. Too bad the graphics are getting kinda old and crappy but still a 9.5/10 game!
My Radeon 9600 is so shitty that it lags on this game with a lot of people in the server. Not for long though, I got a X1650PRO getting preparation for shipment to my house from Newegg, should be here by monday. Time to kiss that fucking pointless lag goodbye.
I've recently gone back and begun replaying the old Battlefields. I find them much more entertaining than BF2, with great graphics, and a superior modification in Forgotten Hope.

That battle of Britain map is ownage, nothing like 30 planes flying around. BF:V was awesome, I loved picking up boats and vehicles with the transport chopper tow line thingy
ha, just installed the other night and man has it been fun. el alamein is still my favorite. battle for britain comes in 2nd. i just love flying those old planes around and shredding the enemy. sure graphics are choppy (7900gt) but oh well. they definately need to remake this game with all the eye candy included. make some tweaks, get online stats, more weapons and this game would sell out. i would buy it just to fly planes, period. still plenty of people online now too. not sure what version most are playing but it isn't 1.61. i'm sure it will lose it luster, but i'm talking my buddies into reinstalling it too.

I play BF1942 more often than I play BF2. Although that's still not much, I love dogfighting in BF1942, beats BF2 any day in that regard.

Just played a few rounds of Battle of Britain. God I loved this game. Miss the naval battles. TAW BoB server has ships and all the planes of 1942. Allies get B17s. Ahh good times.
