The direct approach is usually best, but in this case I think the right thing to do is not to ask her. If you're not sure how she feels about you, she's probably not sure either. If you ask straight out if she likes you, you might be forcing her to decide right then. You're likely to get a safe answer, like I dunno, and she'll feel pressured.
Better approach is just to spend time with her--ask her to do stuff with you, call her up, etc. Give her time to find out how she feels. When she figures it out it will be so obvious you won't need to ask.
