I ran a spyware and a antivirus program to check if there were anything suspicious causing my cpu to constantly stay at 100%. My comp is really really slow on the initial windows bootup and super slow on loading applications. Its so fuckin confusing i litterally tried every possible solution leaving me thinking it could be a hardware component malfunction. I saved my important files and reformatted my sata drive and reloaded winXP again only to find it still doing the same thing. I tried installing windows on a ide drive and still samething. Has anyone experienced this?

Check your ram. System Specs would be really helpful.

Ctrl + Alt + Del > Processes tab. Look at the CPU column and see what is using up all the CPU cycles.

HDD failure maybe?  Did you do a full format during reinstall (not a quick format)?  maybe try chkdsk /r or look in event viewer to make sure you're not getting disk errors.

I'm not disagreeing with Gr33ns, but in my experience, bad ram will give errors whereas a bad drive will just fuck with things and many times, slow the PC down considerably.

Most likely bum ram. Go to the performance tab on task manager and check your page file out.

Cant really tell because the processes jumps up and down randomly, but i know what ever program or application i run that will most likely be the one to hog and make my cpu shoot to 100%. For example i would not be running any program/application and all is fine but if i would open up IE and drag the window around it will lag my comp. Its confusing because my comp is totally cleaned from a format and it still takes like 10-15 min. to load up windows and like 5 min. to log in. I'm pritty sure its a hardware gone wild lol but cant really pinpoint what is the culprit.

Cool, do you know a good program for testing my ram?

My comp is fairly new
amd fx-53
2gb ocz
asus a8n premium
550 psu
1 wd 10000rpm in sata
bfg 7800 gtx
x-fi extreme music

When you say that you drag a window and it lags; that sound to me like a video driver problem to me. Try reinstalling your video drivers. Did you install your chipset drivers? Use memtest86 to test your ram. http://www.memtest.org/

Left click on the CPU column twice to sort the processes so that the one causing the CPU usage will remain at the top of the list.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.

Yeah. I had a similar thing when I accidentally installed the wrong video driver. I went back to the old driver I had and the problem went away.

This is bs i cant even install my video card drivers its saying "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit.". I have run memtest and no memory errors on 2 pass. I also saw that my nvidia nforce4 chipset ecc was disable on memtest. I've installed my nvidia chipset drivers and utilities. My comp is so fucking slow that if i have a webpage and task manager open and scroll my mouse in a circle on the webpage my cpu usage history in taskmanager/performance just flatlines at 100% making my comp a lag monster. I could have my mouse not moving on the webpage and looking at taskmanager/processes and my IExplorer would be set to 00 under CPU but as soon as i move the mouse around on the webpage my cpu sky rockets to 100% again leaving CPU = 60, Mem Usage = around 6,000. I have no idea whats going on can someone help. Thanks.

Heres the list of things i've tried:

1.Using virus/spyware scanner to look for anything suspicious.
2.Tried disabling programs thru msconfig.
3.Tried checking registrys for anything suspicious.
4.Tried checking while in safe mode.
5.Tried reformatting my main sata drive and reloading windows since i only have one drive.
6.Tried reformatting another new ide drive and loading windows on that.
7.Tried switching old ide/sata cables and using new ones.
8.Tried using memtest.
9.Checked all the wires in my computer to see if everthing is hooked up.
My comp runs so slow it took me like a whole day just to install winXP on either drives. I am so tempted to take it for diagnostic testing wich would be about 20 bucks but i figure if i do that ill never learn and ill just be making those geek squads more rich.

Heres the list of things i think that could be wrong:
1. 2 of my drives(IDE,SATA) could be screwed up wich i doubt because its like 3 to 6 month old.
2. winXP disc could be scratch wich i doubt because it is also brand new and there is no noticable scratches.
3. mobo could be faulty wich i doubt because its brand new.
4. psu because the led light went out for no apparent reason but it is also brand new.
5. rom drives could be faulty but both of um are brand new.
6. cant think of anything else cause im ZZZzzzz to tired.

You didnt list this in your 'things you tried'.  I would do this if I was you, youll at least find out what causing 100% cpu useage.

this makes no sense, thats why I asked - whats on 60, what else has high figures, how can something leave 60 on a cpu if its 100%, just requoting the same nonsense isnt going to help you.

Try a programs called "CCcleaner".  It deletes any temporary files that may be affecting your computers speed.  It helps a lot and can get rid of hundreds of megabytes of stuff.  Even surfing the net for a few hours can leave 400MB on your computer.  Give that a try!   Its free.

Ok open up taskmanager/processes then on the tabs where is says Image name, User name, Cpu, Mem usage, click on CPU so it shows what is using most of my CPU power and thats where i got my averages of 60 and mem usage around 6000.

try testing your ram with memtest86. also check if you get 100% usage in a linux live-cd (so we can narrow the problem down to hardware or windows problem).

even though it sound crazy check your psu. i just reformatted becuase my lappy was stuck at 100% all the time. reformatted and the problem still was there. tried memtest but it was clean. then i accidentally forgot to plug in my power brick and the pc worked like a charm. rma'ed my psu and all's good again
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

yes... but please, what process (i.e. image name) is taking up all the CPU usage?

we need to know this, so we can see which process isnt working properly.

Any application i run will suck my cpu usage bone dry leaving it 100%.

So if you are at 0% usage.  And you click say internet explorer then you have a task iexplore.exe and its 100%.  You close it and youre back to 0% ?

Theres something else not just "every application".  Boot up fresh and do ctrl-alt-del and tell us whats the 100% cpu on.

As long as i keep my mouse still my cpu will drop to like 30-40 but as soon as i move my mouse around and start opening applications or programs my comp would just lag and cpu would flatline at 100% even on a freshboot. I would try to open up "My Computer" and in taskmanager/processes under CPU my explorer.exe would hog everthing causing my cpu to flatline at 100%. Initial windows bootup is like 5-10 min. then another 5 min. to log in.

1st open up start, all programs, startup, then delete all the shit in there.

then press start, then run, and type "msconfig", select the startup tab, and then untick all the applications that you don't need- IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE, GOOGLE THEM FIRST!

then restart and see how your computer is going.

if you still have loads of unwanted processes, go start, run, and type "regedit"
first, export the registry by clicking file then export, incase you mess up the registry.
now keep expanding all the little folders as follows....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Then delete all the shit in there that you dont need- BUT AGAIN... GOOGLE THEM FIRST!

Now restart and see how quick your computer is!
