And no, I'm not really jelous of Americans for them being able to have free health care and ranking higher than us in the FN best place to live thingy.

Just realise that it is one way for the US to attempt making freinds in a region they are not that well liked, that way Soldiers wont have to go to places and fight (a) Freedom Fighters or (b) Terrorists.
Yes congrats on that 2.77 billion. We have single citizens that donate that much. I would like to know where China is personally.
Ok, you have one guy who just happens to be the richest person in the world, noramlly hax! but is that donated on behalf of the US, or on behalf of Bill Gates?
Agreed, I find it tough to swallow in any sense insinuating the US government is stingy considering they donate more than twice as much as the next country. That's a hell of a lot of money, I don't care what the population or gdp is. I think the more questionable issue is why does 1/3 of all of our aide go to Israel. And again, where the hell is China...lol. They are on the Security counsel yet they don't show up in foreign aide?

Helping the people in need is always good.  So, +1 for the US.  But at the same time, aren't you concerned about the spending your country has on foreign affairs while domestic issues need more attention and funds?  F.i.  immigration and borders.

I'm sure it could have been used in Katrina reliefs as well.

Who did? The US Funded Lebanon, or Hammas?

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or you just didn't understand the sentence.  What Cameron said is the US helped Israel with money and weapons, and the Israelis, the cunts, destroyed Lebanon.

The US could double, triple, or quadruple the amount and it still wouldn't be enough.  Of course no one takes into consideration the amount of money strew in "small" amounts all over the world.  <sarcasm>But hey, they're evil anyway so who cares whether their blood money is given or not.</sarcarsm>

Money isn't the answer to keeping "Freedom Fighters' <laughs> or terrorists at bay.  That problem is idealogical in nature spanning several thousand years and won't be fixed with a buy off.  Violence is the only thing they understand and killing is the only thing they respect.

That's a laugh.  I am sympathetic to the plight of the Katrina victims but the problem there is two fold.

1.  For some reason Katrina victims equates to Louisiana residents devestated by the Levi break, completely eliminating everyone else on the southern coast.

2.  This definition of Katrina victims needs to stop pointing their fingers at the feds and look to their own beauracracy for answers.  Louisiana was given a ton of money to update the levi system to prevent exactly what happened.  Somehow, it never made it to the levi system; hmmm.....

So if money is to be given to that end it should be spread evenly accross the affected area and not just poured into the Louisiann coffers.  I do agree with the immigration and borders though.  This is definitely one issue I part with Bush on, but to be fair, the democrats will never let there be any progress on this front anyway.

It is a bit on the extreme side, but not far from the truth.  It's even been said in this thread the US is way behind on health care, and our education system could use a boost (lets not start the Amreicans are dumb thing here, that's about 20 other threads right now).

The money that we are sending over seas could do a great deal of good within our own borders, we could improve our border security, there would be more dollars availble for research grants to cure disease, social security could be improved... there are may other things that we could use this money for.

But what would the perception of America be if we refused to help out on foreign affairs?  We would be "greedy" and that would make us targets.  We pretty much lose either way, so why not at least satiate one government while we can.

I see other people gave also.  Good story.  But do not present it as a slap in the face.

It's a slap in response to your snide remark in the OP.

$770 million is 1/13th of a cookie, think the Pentagon can spare it?
While I sympathize with your logic, I'd prefer we just not war OR federally aid other countries.

Foreign aid should be completely private -- individuals should donate as they please.  Taxpayers shouldn't be forced to fund a country they may not even like -- and that applies to funding Israel as well.  We've spent billions on them over the years, and it has been just as stupid IMHO.

Screw that....  As you said, we're targets either way.  I'd rather we save the money for ourselves, and individuals can be generous as they please.  That's true economic freedom -- maximizing your disposable income and being able to designate your own spending without having the government throw it around.
