So then what do you do if you want a pepsi?
Say coke, then specify what brand.

That's sounds like way too much work for a pepsi. I don't know if I could handle that.

If you were in a restaurant, you'd probably just order pepsi, but in conversation I'd usually use coke to mean any soda.

In KY, they still call Pepsi, coke.  It is a generic term for all fizzy drinks that are carbonated.  I personally say either coke or pop.  I also call the drink by it's name, ie Mountain Dew, Dr Pepper, Pepsi, etc.  There is also a drink that is called Swamp Water.  This is a regional drink that is actually namedAle-8-One. Wikipedia states:

Wikipedia wrote:

Ale-8 could be described as a ginger ale, but with caffeine, a fruitier flavor, and less carbonation.

Isn't "pop" how you address your fathers?  "Hey Pop" and all that?

Soda is a powdery substance - baking soda, etc.  Ask any Irishman about Soda Farls/Bread.

Coke, Dr Pepper, lemonade, they are collectively known "soft drinks".  At least that's how it is where I come from.

I use to call it Pop when I lived in Missouri because thats what I grew up with. But now that I live in Texas I call it coke as does just about everyone else. First time I called it pop down here I was looked at as if I were crazy.

Said pop when I lived in Michigan.  Converted to soda when I went to college in Wisconsin.

From what I understand Northeast uses Pop, West uses Soda & the South uses Coke. I'm from Pittsburgh so we say Pop.

I'm from the Northeast and we always said soda. Pop is more midwest and northern. If you go to the far northeast, New England, a lot of people call it tonic.
