It also states new elections might be at hand. It's happening again!
Thoughts?

I like the "Street uprisings are not true democracy, but organised thuggishness" quote from a US source. They weren't saying that in the Ukraine were they? Remember the "Orange Revolution"?

I reckon they should consider holding those fresh elections they're protesting for. Unless Siniora is backed by the majority of the people, he shouldn't be in charge - I don't care how many "powerful outside players" back him.

Who cares whose fault it is? After watching Hotel Rwanda in film study, it really is appauling that the only thing you can talk about is blame. Honestly, imagine what it would be like to be unsafe on the streets outside your home.

It's hardly comparable. Comparing political demonstrations to ethnic genocide is like comparing apples to giraffes.

3 people died in protesting. It's really not the same sort of thing at all.

More trivialization. I wasn't addressing how many people died, I was adressing the situation living in the middle of something like that.

Edit: Just the fact alone that people DIED makes them comparable.

All right, fair enough. But it's such a different situation. Tiananmen square would be a much more appropriate comparison than Rwanda.

(good film though - I quite liked Blood Diamond too)

I'll have to find and watch that then.

I doubt it'll change my opinion on Hotel Rwanda, which I thought was very well done (though Don Cheadles accent was annoying (not as bad as in Ocean's 11) - compared to Leonardo DiCaprios accent in Blood Diamond, it was excellent). I'm well aware Hotel Rwanda didn't show the brutality of the situation full on, but it hinted at it, while setting the film in a more western setting, making it easier for a western audience to empathise with the characters.

Back to the issue - I think what is happening in Lebannon may well be for the best. A government backed by the people will be much more effective than a government that is in power because they have powerful allies.

The death of one is a tragedy...  the death of millions is a statistic.

I wish I could say that I cared what happens in places like Lebanon, but I really can't.  I've lost all hope in the people of most of these countries.  So much of the Islamic World just seems infected with dogma and poverty.  Unless Islam enters a reformation similar to the one that Christianity had, it is doomed to be mostly an ideology representative of suffering and hate.  If Lebanon continues to take refuge in groups like Hezbollah, then I really can't say that I sympathize with them.
