"Al Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, taunted President Bush in a new video that surfaced Monday on the Web, ridiculing his new Iraq policy and daring the U.S. to "send the entire American Army" to Iraq.

“Why send 20,000 only, why not send 50 or 100 thousand?" al-Zawahiri asks in a video intercepted by SITE Institute. "Aren't you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops' dead bodies?”

According to SITE Institute, the 14-minute speech titled “The Correct Equation” was produced by the Al Qaeda's media arm as-Sahab, and was set to be posted on the Web.

In the message, which includes English subtitles, al-Zawahiri calls on President Bush to send the entire American Army to Iraq, saying the Mujahadeen (warriors engaged in jihad) are capable of destroying the equivalent of 10 armies.

Al-Zawahiri warns that peace is impossible if Americans continue to follow Bush's policies.

“If we are secure, you might be secure; and if we are safe, you might be safe," al-Zawahiri says. "And if we are struck and killed, you will definitely -- with Allah's permission -- be struck and killed.

Much of the speech is dedicated to inciting Muslims, urging them to join the jihad or at least to support those conducting jihad in war zones such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Chechnya, Somalia, and Algeria."

Should we take him up on his offer and release the war to the generals instead of fighting it with politics?  I believe combination of Army Delta force, Navy Seals, Marines Force Recon would make a nice combination to show al-Zawahiri what fear means.  What do you think?

Agreed. However, before sending in more forces we need to cut media access to the region for as long as are operations continue and only let them in after the rebuilding process has been nearly completed.

It just makes it easier for them to kill Americans, easier to find new recruits and costs the US vast sums of money. The economic damage from the war in Iraq is worse than anything the terrorists could manage and is one of their stated goals. What do you think more troops will achieve?

I'm not saying more troops, I am saying "remove the gloves" to the troops we already have their. . .

Fuck politics, and SIMPLY give war a chance. . . .all this political posturing does NOTHING! Fight them(terrorists/insurgents, cause thats all they understand. . .

Negotiations, appeasement, concessions, DONT WORK! WAR works!! When we stopped letting war work in Iraq and let politics dictate the course of action. . .chaos insued. . . .

As Gen. Patton said, "we are ALWAYS on the offensive"!!! Once we stopped attacking, the insurgents collected themselves, once we started attacking again (i.e. Battle of Fallujah) we started winning again. . .now Bush has decided he wants to attack again. . .he needs to figure it out!! Because staying on the defensive and only attacking when attacked hasnt worked.

We CAN win! Its just allowing our military to do what they know how to do, and thats kick ass and take names!

LOL. What a cheeky little monkey. He's really riled a few of you guys! Fact of the matter is that a conventional army cannot win against a guerrilla force of unknown size, no matter how big the conventional army is, especially when the indigenous folk are against their presence.

It'll spread everywhere till it's totally out of control and everyone everywhere is being blown up by suicide bombers every day.

Terrorism is not a new thing. It hasn't ever gotten out of control in the past and there is no reason to believe it suddenly will. What has historically caused enormous problems are inappropriate responses to terrorism. Where terrorist acts have been met with overwhelming force mass carnage has ensued.

The best example of this is WWI.Which started with an assasination carried out by the terrorist group the Black Hand, governments overreacted and millions died.

It can't be. What is the fight for in the first place? Keeping Iraq together? It's actually unclear what the goal is. Usually it's just a non-specific catch-all statement like 'to achieve peace'. Seems to me that they don't want to fucking be together under the flag of a country whose arbitrary borders were drawn up by the west in the aftermath of WWI. They need full on civil war to shape the country (or countries as the case may be). Independence does NOT come in a nicely wrapped giftbox - the ultimate direction of the region known as Iraq should be determined by themselves through blood, sweat and tears. There seems to me to be no alternative but to 'allow' them (like it should be our right to patronisingly tell them what they should or shouldn't do) to have their inevitable civil war. The west needs to stay the fuck out of others affairs and concentrate on their own border and internal security. That's the best way of guaranteeing our safety.

Damage limitation is the name of the game.

The indiginous populous hate US occupation. That creates more hostility towards the US in Iraq, which creates more terrorists.

A phased withdrawal from Iraq, whilst spending money on improving the quality of life for Iraqis will make the majority of them gratefull towards the US, rather than hating them. Stop giving ordinary Iraqis reasons to turn to terrorism and terrorism will decline in Iraq.

There is a chance this course of action could lead to civil war and destabilisation, but ultimately the Iraqis should be the ones to sort out Iraq. Western interference in nations development doesn't work.

The only way to win through force of arms is by killing every single Iraqi there just to be sure. Since genocide probably isn't top of Americas to do list, then withdrawal is a better plan.

The United States is need of a diplomatic revolution. Al-Zawahiri will be long gone and we will still be facing the same challenges we do today if we stick to a single minded solution (military force). That ideology is losing it's place in the modern world. The aftermath of 9/11 was one of America's greatest challenges answered. We were united as an entire nation to face this enemy. We were determined and we had the support of the majority of the world. When we went into Afghanistan we sustained this allegiance fighting against an open state sponsor of terrorism. When we went into Iraq many of our friends voiced concern and were not as ambitious.

Today the majority the world looks at the invasion of Iraq as a selfish quest for Global Supremacy. America has lost so much support that gaining it back will take a great amount of time. Despite what some Americans may think, we need the world community to cooperate and come with us. Al-Zawahiri realizes that action in Iraq further separates us from the rest of the world. Why wouldn't he say "Bring it"?

I actually totally agree with that. I'd much rather spend all of that money on homeland security and other much more needed things here at home. Unfortunatly, we're already in that fucked up shithole of a country and our troops are acting as police which they were never meant to do. They're meant to push forward and kill everything that moves. Sitting ducks can't win a war. We either clean up over there (meaning much more "collateral damage" and bad press), or cut and run. I don't think anyone's going to bail right now so we have no choice but to beef up our support. I'll quote usmarine, "If I were over there right now, I'd sure as hell want more troops". That's where it's at. That's what needs to happen. Right now.

Just like to say, I agree fully with C-poe + Kmarion.

The terrorists know exactly what people like fadedsteve and stingray think when they say stuff like this, and it's to further seperate us from eachother.  Getting P'ed off about it is only playing into their hands.  What, do you think they sit around, ask us to bring it to them, and then cry like babies when we do?  They know exactly what's going on in our heads, and that is one of their most powerful advantages.

But according to Fadedsteve, his "throw away the ROE" strategy seems borderline absurd.  Both militarily and politically.

I can sign onto that - best response yet. +1  I want our troops to kill the enemy without being handcuffed so more of them can survive.
