Hey all, today our school freaked out.  I go to a Prep school in Philadelphia, all guys (I think that it's pertinent to the story). 

Around 10 A.M. this morning a student noticed an intricately drawn handgun on the stall wall.  Underneath the gun, it read "January 19, 2007; It's going down."

Naturally, the kid felt that the dean needed to know.  The dean came down, shat himself at the sight of this message and called the police.  So, now we have the cops, our dean, principal and entire student body in uproar.  The entire day, rumors were circulating of the story and most kids decided that they were not going to school tomorrow in order to avoid being shot.

I had this discussion with my mother:

My mother, forcing me to go to school tomorrow said, "Are you afraid?"  Of course, being a senior in High school, I immediately responded with a YES!  This prompted her to retort "It's just a drawing, honey."  To which I replied that it might not be just a sick joke.  I asked her how she would feel if two (my brother attends as well, sophomore) of her sons were killed in another school shooting.  She retaliated with "Well, my work receives 3 bomb threats daily" (She works at a government building, I am not willing to reveal which).  Getting fed up, I screamed that "SCHOOL SHOOTINGS ACTUALLY HAPPEN MOM" and left.

Do you feel that I should or should not attend school tomorrow (Friday)?  And if you feel that it is just a sick joke (all guys school = many twisted pranks)?

Seriously though, I'd skip school. Unless this is what the guy is planning (if this isn't a veiled threat) and he doesn't "strike" tomorrow but on Monday or something.

sounds like your moms got more of a backbone than you... go to school suck it up.. just think if a shooting does go down youll be there to see it in all its wonderous glory.. maybe even get yourself on a snippet of the 6 oclock news

on a side note maybe in math class might be a fun place to work out the percentages of the likelyhood of you gettin shot... how many kids in your school???

That's what many of the upperclassmen where thinking.  I mean, I am sort of afraid guys.  Our school is located,  literally in the middle of the ghetto.  We often get homeless people wondering into our school, and our cars are broken into more often than not.  Also, many of the surrounding people hate our school passinately. 

This all does not add up for tomorrow to be a good day.

I have a backbone man.  In America, high school seniors have what is known as "Senioritis" a.k.a. Senior Slide, this is after we've worked hard the 1st semester and have gotten into the colleges of our choice.  So, any opportunity for slacking...we take it, not wave at it as it passes by.  Also, read my above post (2nd).

About 1,100 kids.

well the odds of you getting shot out of that many.... even if alot stay home.  on the whole these people who do school shootings either cant or dont aim very well and dont use their ammunition wisely

since i have never been in such a situation, i do not know for sure, but this is how i think i would react.

Statement:
i would gather my real friends in the immediate area and charge the shooter.  after we overtook him i would give him what he deserves.  for example, if he didn't shoot, ill shatter his face.  if he has shot a fellow classmate, i would shoot him.  if he shot a 'real friend', i would kill him without hesitation. 

just imagine if on 9/11 all people had this same mentality.

Funny thing you mentioned 9/11.  If you look at tomorrow's date, it's 9/11 backwards.  Most people in my school are generally fairly intelligent and made that connection.

And...as for the "What you would do" is rather heroic.  But, don't be a hero in that situation unless it's necessitated, I'd let the cops do their jobs.  I forgot to mention that there will be a Police presence in my school tomorrow.

Well, if the cops are going to be there, than you're not getting shot. Unless one of the cops misses and caps you in the head, that is. If I were you, I'd go. And to captain hero over there who would 'charge the shooter', have fun dying. What I would do is fucking duck, hide, and watch.

Funny thing you mentioned 9/11.  If you look at tomorrow's date, it's 9/11 backwards.  Most people in my school are generally fairly intelligent and made that connection.

First and foremost, what i would do should not be heroic.  it should be the duty of every capable student.
I didn't want to say this at first, but i feel inclined now: i would not take credit for stopping the shooter(s) (not to be confused with responsibility for my actions which i always fully accept).  this is not about heroism.

secondly, if it was 9/11 backwards, then the casualties go to the enemy, right?


Do the math.
if you were to shoot up a school, who would you kill first.  the security guard.  that means his sorry ass wont be there to protect you for 20 bucks an hour.  also, if no action is taken, many will die before the police arrive.  this is another reason why actions need to be taken by the student body.  Please know that I understand if you don’t want to go.  But if you do nothing about it *and you are capable*, the terrorist has won.
