Obviously this kid can't buy a new Civic Si or anything over $2000...But do you got $3000 maybe?
Ok kid,
Let me give you my advice on a car. First like others have said you don't want one that is in perfect condition, because being a first car, it'll most likely get trashed with beer cans, get scratched by others at school, get dented up at the mall, or downtown...So, find one that is used!
Secondly, you live in Canada. Wouldn't you prefer a car that is All-Wheel Drive? My #1 recommendation for this is an AUDI. Buy an Audi if you have harsh winters (I know global warming is probably effecting you as well...) But either way, an Audi is SUPER fun on dirt roads, gravel roads, ice and on snow! (Now I'm not saying you should go out racing with your first car!)
Another thing, you will want to learn to drive a 5-speed manual. Every man needs to know how. So get to it!
If you are not familiar with Audi's I'll give you my top picks for your price range:
1985-1987 Audi 4000s Quattro range : $800-2500 (for beater to super nice)
(They were mostly 5-speeds, which is a plus) I personally own an 1984 4000 (Don't recommend '84, because they are more expensive parts) it has 185,000 miles on it, and still runs. Whoever posted above saying anything with 100,000 plus will need work...Doesn't know Foreign (German, Japanese) cars (Or trust them)
1987?-1995 Audi 80 Quattro $800-1500
1988-1995 Audi 90 Quattro $1000-3500
1989-1993 Audi 100 Quattro $1200-4000
1994-1997 Audi A6 Quattro $2500-6000
Here is a VERY NICE example of an Audi 90. It is a 1991 Quattro (All-Wheel-Drive) and a 5-speed with only a 114,000 miles! I personally want this car, but have a nice one already =P Contact them and ask what they want, I would say since its a dealer, with low miles, and a 20v with all the options...I'm guessing $3500.
Clicky Here for the AUDI 90!---------------
So thats it for Audi's there are various models through out the 80's, (5000, V8, 200, ) but they aren't as nice, do research on craigslist for them. I will see if I can find photos of some for you.
I would also recommend a honda civic. Buy one from the 80's like an 86-90, they are smaller, and lighter, and better gas milage then the mid 90's I think.
Good luck. And go out, test drive one tomorrow!

Nature is a powerful force. Those who seek to subdue nature, never do so permanently.
