I was too busy mopping my woman's brow, having all the bones in my hand crushed and giving here gas & air (and myself the odd blast) to have a look down the 'business' end.

My wife had a bleed, no waters breaking involved... luckily Bertster7 was round and drove us to the hospital (thus avoiding the hassle of finding a cab firm who accept near-labour fares, and the evil looks from ambulance drivers who don't see transporting pregnant women as an emergency), anyway, they tried to induce labour because of the bleeding, it ended up taking 3 days during which time I was sleeping on the hopital floor, anyway, some time on the 3rd day after the epidural when they were considering an emergency c-section it suddenly happened, a beautiful screaming baby    Painful but worth it

I'm sure you can guess the sex from the subtle clue in my sig.

Anyway, good luck, hope it's an easier labour than my wifes.

P.s. I was at the business end, saw the whole thing and I also got to cut the cord.

Good luck with your new baby.  I myself have 3 boys (10,7 and 1) and they are great but mark my words, kids dont develop a personality, they get a f**king attitude!

Also, you might think watching the baby come out will ruin sex for you after, it won't! I wasn't planning on watching from "that end," but when the time came I couldn't help it. It's exciting. First something all nasty is down there, and you're like "is that part of the head???" and then before you know it there's a head sticking out. (For us at least) the rest of the body came right out after so before we knew it we had a screaming little boy. If the hospital allows it, and you're clear-minded enough to think about it, have your cell ready to call someone important so they can hear the cries. We decided to call my mom first (minutes after while he was crying) since her mom will get to see her mom. Also, calling a relative is good because then they can call family while you rest/oogle/kiss/realize your life has changes.

We were induced so I can't help you too much on that. But one day I was at work and get a call "I think my water broke, can you get here soon?" I made a 40 minute trip in about 20 minutes, no lie. Just a false alarm, though.

Now she's due Feb. 4th (and dialating already!), and I'm supposed to go back to work on Feb. 1st (more than likely) so that'll be interesting. "Yeah, I know I've been back for two days but I need to take a week or so off now. Thanks!"
Don't you get longer permission from work than that??? We get 10 days off (no weekend) right after the baby is born and we get 4-6 weeks longer "vacation" before the kid is one year.

I have no intention whatsoever watching the baby coming out off her mother. We talked about me sitting right behind her, but after second thoughts she may headbutt me to dreamland.    Unless someone has a goalie mask (hockey, that is) I can borrow.
Do yourself a favor, all kidding aside, watch your child be born. It is the most incredible event of your life, you don't want to miss it, I promise you. Anyway, a heart felt congratulations to you and your wife. I hope all is well.

I cried for 3 days after my sons birth. Couldn't pick him up without breaking down into tears. Finally I toughened back up and started teaching him the evils of modern liberalism, how to shoot a gun, and how to steal peoples 401k retirement savings.

For that my friend, I would go here. While it is aimed at signatures, it still covers the basics.

Patrick Nicolas T., born this morning at 7:05 Bucharest time and weighing in at 4.2kg.  I'll post pics tomorrow after I sleep a bit, the hospital nazis finally kicked me out babbling something in Romanian about visiting hours, but everything is ok.  Had to bribe the nurses about $60 to be allowed in the delivery room, but it was worth every penny.  They almost didn't let me be in there, but I think the nurse saw the look of "seriousness" on my face when she was trying to explain their archaic rules to me and I heard my wife cry out from behind her.  I don't think they had the security staff to handle me.

Labor started about 2am this morning, but she didn't think it was anything until about 5:30 when she told me that "these weren't normal contractions anymore", so we went in and in less than an hour after getting there we had our boy...three whole pushes in less than five minutes, only about 30 minutes of the painful labor.  She was dilated to 9cm by the time we got there.  My wife has no idea yet how relatively easy she had it, but I'm sure her friends will tell her.

Good luck to you Master Flash, hopefully everything goes as smooth for you man!

Everything was scheduled for both of my wife's deliveries.  My son was 8 weeks early (surprise!) and my daughter was right on time.  They induced her both times, though.  Really quick deliveries, too . . . around 2 hours.  Cut the cord if they'll let you, it's a great experience.  Pack your bags ahead of time, then you can grab em and zoom to the hospital.

EDIT: only read the first page before posting above - God bless you and your new addition, GorillaTicTacs!

Well, my wife is now past 9 months, so now it's just a matter of time when I become a father for the first time in my life. And since there are many "elders" playing/typing here, I just want to ask. How did you get the message from your girl that her water broke?

Extremely curious and nervous for what's going to happen these next days right now...
Hey Flash, I just want to give a thought on this; If I were you I'd take your wife to the hospital this week, she will be taken care of there and you can be there with her, the advantage in this is that there is no rushing like crazy to the hospital, another one would be that if she has a hemorrhage (God forbid) it can be immediately treated and her chances are pretty high of surviving. Now to the crucial, my aunt was 3 days from giving birth according to her doctor, and my cousin got strangled with the umbilical chord inside her womb , yes, it was a huge blow on everyone close to my Aunts, that's why I suggest you take her to the hospital, to  keep her and the baby monitored, now this would be a worse case scenario and is very rare, but it's better to be safe than sorry, this wasn't meant to scare you to a point where you will become really nervous, just enough so you think about it since I wish no one what happened to my aunt, take care. Hope everything goes alright
