Emo?
Propagandhi FTW
I'll explain this thing to the kids with pictures, so that there could be an understanding here what is and isn't punk. I feel this to be extremely necessary, because of the obvious skewing of this genre between generations. All you die-hard punk-rockers, please correct me if I'm wrong, because this is a grunge-dude speaking.

Of course Bad Religion passes! Without them there would be no punk.
If you haven't heard Refused's "The Shape of Punk to Come" I highly recommend it.
Most of my favorites were covered already but here's a few more that I have in my collection.
The Business - Most drunken fun I had at a show that didn't involve GWAR. Got to get up on the stage with em to yell some Oi! chants.
Social Distortion - More of a Rockabilly sound but I like alot of there stuff
Dead Milkmen - <3 Bitchin Camaro and Takin' Retards to the Zoo
The Casualties
Pennywise
Agnostic Front
Sick of it All
DRI
The Vandals
The Unseen
Cockney Rejects
Cock Sparrer
Madball
Murphy's Law
Gray Matter
Vennaskond - From Estonia not sure if these guys are punk but alot of there songs kickass. Every song I hear sounds completely different. Haven't found much info on them here in the states.

You are the first one who mentioned The Clash, in the second page of a Punk Thread. You forgot to include in post punk The Offspring.TeamZephyr wrote:

Nah mate, they're a 90s rock band. Post Punk existed through the 80s and spawned new genres such as Goth Rock through bands such as Bauhaus and Joy Division.sergeriver wrote:

The Offspring go in the same mold as Green Day and Rancid as one of those "punk inspired rock bands". Bands that use the "punk" thing to further their careers with the big labels.
Call it Punk revival or whatever, but The Offspring has its roots in punk. And they own a lot of punk bands.TeamZephyr wrote:

tiger army
the casualties
edit: before you flame me for this, a good deal of these are probably technically post punk, i realize this, so don't be a dick.

Remember Me As A Time Of Day
I call it 1991 The Year that Punk Broke.sergeriver wrote:

None are matey, the top few are Ska, the bottom are a bunch of 90s rock bands that you've labeled punk for some strange reason.heggs wrote:

Just for emphasis post-punk is not The Offspring, Rancid, NoFx etcetc, post punk is a genre that came out of the punk period of 76-78 and included bands that EXISTED IN THE EARLY 80'S-LATE 70s.
I'm talking bands like Gang Of Four, Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure. The 90s rock bands have only the smallest relation to punk music that it is disgusting to label them "punk bands".
Sublime anyone? They were a nice ska/punk revival band. Santeria is a great song.
regardless of the disputes that will undoubtedly arise as to what is and isn't punk, it's good to see others on here that listen to the same thing.
so regardless of whatever the fuck these bands are labeled as, i listen to them and enjoy them, and go to their shows, and they sure as fuck aren't mainstream. i wouldn't necessarily call them rock either.
labels are overrated anyway.

Remember Me As A Time Of Day
I really don't have too many punk punk bands. I just have a lot of some bands. The main true punk bands I have are:
Anti-Flag
Black Flag
Dead Kennedys
Dropkick Murphys
Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards
Misfits
NoFX
Operation Ivy <---Ska band but ska is still technically punk. That and they're the only ska band I have, not going to make a new list just for them.
Pennywise
Ramones
Rancid
Street Dogs
The Casualties
The Clash
The Exploited
The Misfits
The Pug Uglies
I know somebody said Rancid wasn't punk but some of their songs are. Same with some of these other bands, they're not all punk but some songs are at least real punk. I know Clash had a hip hop CD, still pretty good. DKM has some Irish folk music. I'm just basically listing all the bands that play some REAL punk.
And I still think Offspring is good. They're kind of punk/rock with the emphasis on the rock. I don't know why but they're just pretty much the only band that I can listen to over and over and over without ever getting tired of them. Besides, they're so fun to jam out to on guitar. I still love playing Beheaded by them.
