The US will never cease to be a major superpower. It is too resource- and people-rich, has no real internal division (well, nothing major, just the fluctuations of a democratic socety) and is too technologically advanced to be challenged as a world superpower.

In teh future, I see a powerful alliance between the three world powers forming: China, the US and the EU. This is simply because such an alliance would make these three entities unimaginably powerful, and on their own they have enough sway to proceed with this course regardless of opposition.

Whether from internal or external stress, every country's time will come when it ceases to be a superpower. When you really look at the Romans and what they had accomplished compared to the other countries of the time, they were not much less impressive than the US. They could have beaten the the rest of the world in a war

Rome was not destroyed by an established nation. The Goths and the Vandals were scattered throughout the country(They snuck in...Illegal Immigrants!) and slowly tore it apart from the inside, while the Romans were being governed by weak rulers.

Ever heard of the stock market? Thats just a little part of this issue. International corporations would fail. Countries that the US Aid (Israel, for one) would be without support (and in the case of Israel, weakened defenses).

But that isn't falling - that's just being a bit behind.

Falling would mean the power of ths US greatly decreases.

What you're talking about is another country's power becoming greater than the US's, but that doesn't consstitute a fall in the US's power.

Don't think it's going to fall, I think it's going to sort of be assimilated into a larger world government.

And even if it were to fall, I don't see it being any time in the near future. Rome didn't fall in one day, it took hundreds of years, and still existed in some shape or form till about the 1500's.

Things to remember, the US still has the largest economy in the world by a huge margin. It holds a huge technological advantage over just about every country in the world except for close allies. Largest military in the world (at least as far as spending), and it really isn't showing signs of stagnation. The US has really only been an "empire" for about 60 years. It wasn't on the world circuit much until WW2 when it was forced into the position.

I honestly don't see it falling as the world super power in my lifetime. Of course I'm assuming there aren't major changes in the world, like a large nuclear war, meteor impact etc... I think that the biggest threat to the US continuing to be the dominant power in the world would be a civil war in the united states. The way that the US seems to be getting more and more divided from left and right points to potential for it happening, but I seriously doubt it will.
