Yeah, but 30people have died every day for the past three or so years in Iraq, people get kinda bored of it after a while - "yeah, so dozens were killed in a car bomb in Baghdad, what else is on?"Janysc wrote:
I suppose the US Air Force wants to take care of them on their own.
Oh no, a four-year old kid died! What about those 30-40 people killed every day in Iraq? Fucking news agencies.

because it was some kind of indirect war, there was no front line / combat zone, like in standard war.Bubbalo wrote:

My point is if we did not have a gazillion troops in Iraq Mr. Poe, and were hunting down extremist terror cells in the first place, we would not be spread thin. But, for the record the Marines have been organized, trained and equiped to fight a three phase war since the mid 90's when General Krulak was the Commandant. So in other words we can be deployed with 85% of our Marine Corps in three remote locations in the world at once and still be deadly somewhere else within 24 hours.CameronPoe wrote:
Hooray for spreading your military forces very thinly across the globe, biting at the heels of the problem of Islamic fundamentalism but always actually failing to deal with the whole monster!!! W00t for pointless ventures doomed to failure!!
Wherever next? Perhaps redeploy 100 troops from Iraq to 'fight' the Islamists in Mindanao in teh Phillipines!
Incidentally there's already a thread on this.
Amen to that.Mogura wrote:

in the high of cold war CIA and KGB used frequently assassination, bombing,.... to meet their goals, they had even spec ops squad at full time, to make operations where it is needed.Parker wrote:

one of my favorite parts of history is studying the eastern bloc during the good old days, when russians were soviets. im definitly lost, i do not get this connection that you have made.
oh and the CIA thing.......quit watching so many movies.
www.cia.gov
go there, go to the FOIA viewing room and type in Pheonix Project in the search box and youll see what the CIA is capable of.
but the point of an intelligence agency is to gather information, not be the united states hitmen.
we will have a breakdown in intelligence if we have all of our operations people going and killing everyone.
ya im sure you know everything about an INTELLIGENCE agency.....im sorry but your wrong....the us and soviets acutally had an understanding that if they went around killing one another that nothing would get accomplished. so they didnt....you might be thinking of the brits seeing as how they didnt have that arrangement.....think of ricin an umbrella and downy street.Mogura wrote:

"point of an intelligence agency is to gather information, not be the united states hitmen" now it is not anymore, but cia use to have hitmans at their sold.
you send me to the official site of the CIA, => LOL :p , what do you think they put on that site ? bullshit , thats all :p , even if CIA from now is just a shadow of what it used to be in the cold war time ( same for KGB now called FSB ), its still very powerfull organisations ;-)
Yeah, its doing wonders to Iraq...deeznutz1245 wrote:

i never say i know everything abot CIA and other intelligence agencies, yes they may have had understanding ( yeah no direct attack , hence "Cold War" and its a big question in how much % of cases those "undertsandings" were respected) with soviets but not with most of other nations, (vice versa for soviets).Parker wrote:

and the "spec op squads" you referred too are not really that. the operations directorate has very few black bag guys, and in fact they have more now than they did during the cold war. so the reference to the cia being a "shadow" of what it was is also wrong.
so im still kind of lost as to what the comparison was supposed to be.....but hey you should really check out the FOIA reading room. you might learn some cool shit......i know, youre too smart for that and all they would put up there is lies........heres a little secret FOIA stands for Freedom of Information Act. its this great little thing that says the CIA has to publish information that is no longer classified........i love america.

Because of the use of proxies and no direct confrontation which would then make it a 'hot war'. Proxies are situations like Afghanistan where the Russians went in to take over and we supported, trained and equipped (omg!) Osama Bin Laden & Co. defending it.Bubbalo wrote:
