Russia has cut oil supplies to Poland, Germany and Ukraine amid a trade row with its neighbour Belarus.
The Russian state pipeline operator, Transneft, said it cut supplies on the Druzhba pipeline to prevent Belarus illegally siphoning off oil.

BBC economics correspondent Andrew Walker says the suspension is an uncomfortable reminder to Europe of the large and growing role that Russia has in meeting its energy needs.

After cutting off gas to Ukraine and much of western Europe last year, Russia is flexing her economical might and control over Europe further by cutting the Oil to Poland, Germany and Ukraine. Will we have to pander to the Russian state in the future to make sure our oil run machine continues to function? Exactly how will Russia use this leverage in the coming years as oil and gas starts to run out?
Discuss.

Alternatives.  If they're going to play games, stuff'em; develop viable alternatives where you can and kill their source of revenue permanently.

Yep but its hard to ween Europe from the oil and gas tit. Sadly we have sat on our hands up to this point with very little effort to build up some form alternative power supply that would insure that this kinda shit wouldn't happen.

I'm surprised with diesel engine vehicles being so much more common in Europe that you haven't moved on to bio-diesel production.

do you know that to fullify the need for fuel  by biodiesel, we would have to cultivate the surface as big as few times that of all europe :p

Maybe Russia realized that she still has some influence over Europe. Maybe Russia wants finally its industry and infrastructure restored, and thats how they will get the money. The russian bear is being ressurrected once again:)

It's time for a fully nuclear Europe. France have the right idea. We NEED to be self-sufficient because I don't trust Putin in the slightest.

Right, state-sponsered alternative fuels. Then you'll have the US breathing down your neck for not supporting the dollar trade in oil. Smart plan. You can't win when you're stuck between an economic superpower and a military superpower.

It looks like it's time to move away from oil or move to a different supplier.

I honestly think Russia has something in the works.  Killing former spies, cutting off oil supplies to other nations.....
