New metals, crystals and films, new fabrics, medicines and medical devices, detailed Earth maps,
improved weather studies, Hundreds of thousands of people have their jobs linked one way or the other to NASA, Cellular tech, TV tech, oh yea and Velcro. Disbanding NASA is disbanding a humans natural desire to explore. For the most part people have no clue on how much we have benifited from NASA and the improvements to our quality of life here on earth.

I don't believe NASA have ever done anything. Including going into space or putting satellites there.

It's all lies, lies I tell you.

I do think the final frontier is worth exploring but to be honest the amount of money and effort ploughed into it has produced scant reward, in terms of the financial input that is.

Ownage thread Kerry 8-)?    Your quite right, and to disband it would be one of the few examples in history where we took a step back rather than forwards.

New metals - I cannot deny.

New crystals- I cannot deny.

New films- I need clarification. I know many film layers have been and are still created by the semi-conductor industry.

Medicines and Medical Devices- Link please?

Detailed Earth Maps- Well...yeah.

Improved weather studies- Yet Global Warming is still denied and weathermen can't tell the weather from a hole in the wall.

Hundreds of thousands of people have their jobs linked one way or the other to NASA- clarify please.

Cell tech- Clarification please.

TV Tech- Satellite FTL! Cable all the way.

Velcro- Please explain. I mean, velcro......c'mon.

Now, go look up every failed mission by NASA, how much it cost, and then look up how much the investigation of the failure of NASA cost. Then tell me taxpayers like hearing about billions flushed away into space.

Without NASA, I'd have 2/3rds less customer base.  My neighborhoods property value would go to shit, and my stepdaughters school funding would go belly up.

Oh.... you meant how it benefits everyone....  oh.

I think you mentioned velcro?  What would I do without velcro?!?!?

Who do you work for? Or do you mean such a high percentage of the local population is NASA employed, there would be no money for whatever you do?

Nah.  If we take it for face value, it means that after 100k miles the bumpers will fall off and the booster engines will need a complete overhaul.  The blue book value will also depreciate astronomically, and as long as we don't put any firestone tires on it.....

NASA don't deny it. They say it is the biggest threat to human civilisation short of a super volcano or a meteor hit.

Mason4Assassin444 wrote:

NASA is big. A large proportion of their funding goes in paying salaries to Americans.

Mason4Assassin444 wrote:

Cell tech- Clarification please.
Many phones and other communication systems use satellite links.

Mason4Assassin444 wrote:

TV Tech- Satellite FTL! Cable all the way.
If you live in an area with no cable coverage then satellite is better. If you live in the UK Sky (Satellite) is better than any cable offerings.

Mason4Assassin444 wrote:

This I don't get. A Swiss bloke invented velcro ages ago.

Most cable "networks" use satellites. I think you misunderstand this. (Havent you seen the news vans .)

Weather-We are are not just talking about global warming. I mean c'mon do I really have to go into all this..lol Forecast, sea temps, big freaking rotating hurricanes headed right for me.

Medicines and Medical Devices-just an example Texas Children's, NASA develop new heart monitoring control room

Jobs-All this new technology helps to create jobs in the tech industry. For example the https://i18.tinypic.com/4caups5.jpg
require people to manufacture and sell to the consumer. Again, just an example off the top of my head. This is where the financial benefits come full circle. Consider all the taxes on products that have been derived from this technology.

And the Velcro was a joke. I guess you guys never saw Men in Black .

According to Wikipedia, Velcro being a NASA thing appears to have come from Men in Black, and they stole it off Aliens. Or else it's just popularly credited with inventing it.

I work about a mile from JSC NASA Clear lake.  I used to work on sight for an Optometrist, now I work for the Doctor with the DOD contract for NASA employees.  The local costumer base is comprised of mostly families who have a member working for, or contracted by, NASA/JSC.
