Excuse me, but what i've read about VAT on Wikipedia it can't be that much. I mean, we also got 20% tax that the retailer has to add to his selling price which will be paid by us directly to the state, and another 20% off the retailers income.

17.5% of what the price should be in uk added to your US price
you will also get a charge of around 10-12 quid from the courier because they pay the import VAT for you 1st so they charge you for that.

add your shipping charges to that and I dont think you would get alot off.
then again you could get lucky and not have to pay any charges, but that is getting harder, the 'gift' description is wearing a bit thin with customs, especially when it's shipped from a retailer.

If all went well you would just pay for what it cost in USA + the shipping
thats if your mate marks it up as gift or docs and customs believe him and dont rip the package apart.

I just looked on a site (not amazon) and found prices much closer to the mark. All be it the UK is still paying more than our American friends but nothing like the prices in the original post. Check out www.overclockers.co.uk (yeesh I should like an advert ) and there much cheaper

Excellent, thanks for spotting that Bell ..... I had to price up a system last week and I was wondering whether to grab one of the OEM XP Pro + Vista upgrade voucher packs for myself too.

Glad to see the OEM prcing is not much difference than before (£65 for Basic Home up to £135 for vista ultimate, tax included) and if oc are doing it, then all the other discounters (ebuyer, aria, savastore etc) will have similar prices too.
