Its quite obvious that John Smith had a hand in it.

*sigh* Mormons.  The real name of the religion is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or LDS, but since the main difference between us and Christianity is another book called the Book of Mormon, so we're, apparently, Mormons.
My family's mostly Mormon. Of the two books (the Bible and the Book of Mormon), the Bible was the one brought out the most in 'Sunday School.' But you have to admit, 'Mormon' is a bit catchier than 'LSD--er--LDS.' I'm not sure exactly what evil other Christians see in them though. Temple garments? Child's play compared to the Catholic Church.

All this doesn't change the fact that the Grand Canyon is old, though.

Apparently the Whitehouse doesn't like the anser;
The Park Service has been asked, by several Bush appointees, not to say, because it might offend creationists.......
WTF

I don't even know what to say, except that it is a ridiculous attempt to suppress information. If you don't believe the world is older than the bible says it is, it doesn't give you the right to supress information that might show otherwise.......

Fuck Religious Fundamentalists, no matter what religion they feel the need to proselatize.
OK you provided the "disprove Bush link", but where did you provide his statement?  At one time weren't you tagged the conservative leader of these forums?  Did you vote for spell check before you voted against it?

Being a conservative is not tantamount to being a Bush supporter.

Read some other of his stuff.  Was all for him then I watched as others seemingly changed his mind. Reread his topic here..  Does it read like a conservative would post?

Oh, no problem.  I'm not sighing that you should've known, I just compared it to what we don't like to call ourselves.

I liked the word Mormon myself, because people knew exactly what you meant.  Even though it kind of suggests we WORSHIP him (not any more than you would worship any random angel with a name), nobody would hate us because they thought that.

I actually think that the LDS is too close to LSD...  THAT makes me think we're all vocabulary-failing druggies.

You apparently haven't visited the "Bible Belt" in the southern US. These people believe in creationism, scoff at facts, laugh at truth and generally don't brush their teeth often enough...
I live in the Bible Belt, and yes, creationism is still sadly alive.  I think a large portion of creationists are actually in Kansas though.  They apparently made a big stink over there with some school boards.
Oh yeah, I think I heard about that. Another argument for non-denominational schooling.

But please don't tell me there's so many of them that vote that a political party would want to hide the age of the grand canyon. It would REALLY scare me if creationists got to decide who has control of the largest nyookular arsenal in the world.

so wouldnt that disprove religion right there?
Well, no because religion is a belief. That would make it nothing more than a well organized opinion. It would, however, disprove most claims by Christians of how the world was created. I am not religious and beleive it or not I think one of the best quotes about religion came from the movie Dogma: " Religion would be better if it were not a belief, beliefs are set in stone. IDEAS can be changed."

What are you trying to say? That evil liberal hippies have taken over his brain/BF2s account and are making un-conservative posts?

Actually, I took the Kansas incident as a sign that schooling should be totally privatized, but that's just me.

But yeah, creationists are kind of that group that the Republicans do their best to hide in the closet.  It's like how most Democrats try to keep Cindy Sheehan out of the spotlight.  Both parties have their embarassing contingents.  North Carolina in particular is slowly becoming more urban and secular, thankfully.  We'll probably always have a surplus of rednecks though.
