We all know what Saddam did, but was his hanging right? Was his trial a fair one? Will Iraq be better now he's gone? Or the civil war and the violence will increase? Don't you think by hanging him they made him a martyr?

Yes. He was a bastard, and few will miss him.
As for the martyr angle, I think that's a non-issue. The insurgents will continue to breed chaos with or without martyrs to focus on.
This is also why I believe we should kill Muqtada al-Sadr and his followers, if we actually want to stay in Iraq for the long haul.

Taking Saddam out of power was wrong, what's going to make anything that happened after that right?
I believe removing Saddam was stupid, but not wrong. We didn't have the right to remove him, but he was killing lots of his own people. We removed an evil leader, so I can't really say that it was wrong to do.SysTray wrote:

On the other hand, it was stupid for us to do it the way that we did, because we didn't have the world's support. If we had, things would be much smoother right now.
He's dead. Good.
They should have shot him instead. If you're going to kill someone, be a man and kill them politely. Trying to deny them the "satisfaction" of dying is sick, twisted, and just downright disrespectable. It takes a real spineless excuse for a man to be so vile.
I wanted to put him on the chair and have him slow cooked.jonsimon wrote:

no..who the hell is america to barge in to someone elses country an take him from power..
they've made a bad situation 50 times worse, and hanging wtf is that all about...

why hang him? He was the bad guy who hang people but now when the usa hanged him they are like him.
Do it without pain and everybody is happy!?!

Like in 'The Green Mile' - where the douche doesn't wet the sponge. That's how he should've gone.Miller wrote:

The people wanted blood, and they got it. Personally, I think Saddam got off easy. If they had thrown him to Muqtada, he'd be wishing he was dead right about now.jonsimon wrote:

I agree that removing Saddam has allowed insurgents to take over the country and create a chaotic hellhole. Our inability to anticipate this shows a true lack of leadership in our government.LostFate wrote:

However, I don't see how you can sympathize with a brutal dictator.
If he asked to be shot, why the hanging? It's barbaric.Turquoise wrote:

Getting your rocks off from a hanging, derived from a puppet government in a farcical trial where the result was a foregone conclusion.
Pathetic.
Pathetic.
Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
I don't think so. I think hanging was suitable for the crimes he committed.sergeriver wrote:

Admittedly, there are several people in our own government that should meet the same fate for actually supporting Saddam during the Iran-Iraq War, but we know that unfortunately, that's not going to happen.
I think Rumsfeld is one of those people, by the way.
I'll agree that the trial was probably unnecessary. We should have just killed him when we found him in that spiderhole.m3thod wrote:

The only way to handle Barbarians is to be brutal quite obviously...now hes gone there just killing each otherTurquoise wrote:

Suicide cars? everyday this is the bullshit you get without saddam even if he was an asshat.
Well, I agree with you. That guy deserves the same fate as Saddam. But hanging? Not in these times my friend.Turquoise wrote:

To be honest, its was the wrong thing to do, aswell as any person that would have been given the kind of power given over a country would do similar attrocitties just as Saddam did, and US getting involved was fukin bullshit, cos GW Bush is a c*nt and always will be, he wanted oil and rule over a Iraq!!!
No...it was an easy way out for him, and they made him a martyr. (clap clap noobs)
I know fucking karate
I agree. But I'm also pretty sure that you'd be condemning America if we decided to become the next Saddam in the interests of maintaining order in Iraq. If we started acting as brutal as Saddam was, and it actually started working, you'd be saying that we've become evil.LostFate wrote:

Granted, you'd be correct, but it just seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. On the one hand, we're trying to be civil in our defense of Iraq. On the other hand, it's not working because of what you mentioned. This is why I'd prefer us to leave now.
You're forgetting that this war took the life of at least 100k civilians and more than 3000 American soldiers. Who is responsible for that?Turquoise wrote:
