Just been looking through the "English_Patch" localisation file looking for the commander asset destruction message, and found these:

I'd have though devils perch was too small for jets you would cross it in seconds.  Maybe it started off a much bigger level.

Agreed.   That village has no point. Other than making me think that the developers were making the Mashtuur map and just said, "meh, that's good enough"  and left that village up there...  But it is kinda fun to be the last one on your horrible team thats alive, go there and stay alive as long as you can.....

If you check some of the other files there are entries for different maps. 2 or 3 of them. Maybe this was to be part of them. DP might be for a different map that wasnt included and will not see the light of day.

Mashtuur was originally going to have a different layout, and was going to have jets. It was the map shown on the E3 trailer. Chances are, the little "forgotten village" was going to be part of the 128-man map version (YES, BF2 was indeed going to have 128 player support! You can imagine how that would've been once EA started taking directive reigns over DICE... too bad DICE has to be with EA, BF2 would be so much better if they were with Valve...).

Yes, 2 CP's for 32player Great Wall, which me and Phrozenbot (Hellogoodsir) guarantee are the helipads that are left in (like the Mashtuur forgotten village) and even a few for Taraba Quarry.

It doesnt look like there are any "lost CP's" for any vanilla or AF map that I can find though.

Yea, it used to be called Glowing Pass. Not so sure about additional flags though...none listed in the localisation file.

In it, youll see that Mashtuur was supposed to have jets.

Also, SF was definitely meant to have jets because you can find them in the game files.  Dice also originally made it so that you could swim underwater, have spear guns, and use poisonous gas, all in SF.

Kmal, dont know if youre off right now, but your stats on your "Proof" account say youre playing SF.

Saw that thread eagles, very kick-ass.  Makes me want to play bf2.  I think I'll go do that now!  The original/pre-release audio/visual effects are better than the current ones

Maybe Devil's Perch would have had a carrier to fly the jets off, or maybe the sub would have been bigger or something. I'm kinda glad there's no jets because I can't fly them so I just get killed alot

DV looked kinda shit as did Ghost Town, but Mash...woah!

On that topic...there was also meant to be a Lynx for EF (transport chopper probably, although the EU dont have one on any of the maps) and also the Harrier for AF, which was mysteriously deleted.

That would be amazing.  Shame they took it out  No one lives for ever 1 or 2 had underwater diving with spear guns and it rocked!  I hope its possible for someone to make a mod with an under water level

There was loads of good stuff cut. Maps and features are no exeption. I always wanted fast roping out helicopters but since their rotors dont have hitboxes it kind of defeats the purpose. Also DICE failed to code fast roping correctly so they just cut it out where games like OPF which came years before had it perfectly coded and in years ago.
