To me,
It is the middle of the celebration of the year. First is Thanksgiving, where we give our thanks, in general to the cosmos ( or to God, or whatever ) for what we have. Next is Christmas, where I note the Winter Solsitce and pause to give gifts to those in my circle, perhaps sowing good will and karma for the new year. It ends with New Years, where we drink in hopes of good fortune for the next year.

The birth of christ is really around Easter from what I was taught. The Christians coopted the pagan celebration of the winter solsitce and replaced it with a Christian holiday.

What does it mean to you?

And, may yours be peacefull.

Christmas means some fat cracker eskimo is gonna be bustin into yo shit and everybody is gonna be fine with it.  But when my buddies in the hood do this they all get the cops called on 'em and hauled off to the pen for 20+ years.

Thats why we got MLK day.  MLK ain't fraid of no overweight Alaskan flyin around spreadin prejustic.  No way, and thats why they name streets after MLK and not Santa Claus.

That's because Christmas was the celebration of the birth of Mithras. Who was a Roman god (actually a mortal, whose father was God, who died for our sins and was then resurected). Constantine was renowned for using existing festivals to help smooth the integration of Christianity into Roman culture. The Christians stole a lot of their mythology from Mithraism.

To me Christmas is all about food. You have to remember that Thanksgiving is a festival that is exclusive to America, no one else celebrates it.

Christmas for me is all about seeing family as well. In fact, in 20 minutes I will be on the road to Oregon to see family for the holiday's!

Celebration of the birth of my Savior, Jesus.  What date it happened or what pagan holiday the date is related to really makes no difference to me.  I choose not to celebrate Halloween (let the flames begin) and celebrate something else instead.  The same attitude could have been the reason behind the as probably the date Christmas is celebrated.  My guess is that Christians figured they'd celebrate the Lord's birth as long as the rest of the country was celebrating.

Do you celebrate All Saints day (or All Hallows)? The over the top celebrations for Halloween (All Hallows Eve) are a recent American invention, which I am not especially partial to.

No, I do not celebrate it.  Please elaborate, I don't have much knowledge regarding the holiday.

Io Saturnalia!  I'll celebrate the solstice...otherwise it's the time of year to get together with the rest of my family only due to the fact that most of them are catholic and celebrate christmas.

Ah, when you have kids, its usually more realistic to let them celebrate like everybody else.
My wife and kids go to church every Sunday; I go motorcycle riding.
I think you refer to the festival of Samhein, and yes, that is what Halloween means to me.

Like most adults it has worn off and is a commercial debt catalyst to me. I love it for my son though, he is definitely the most special thing in my life and me and the old lady get to enjoy that with him. I dont think I act different but maybe I do this time of year. On that note, whatever (if any) holiday you all choose to celebrate I hope it is warm and safe for you and your families. Even you Bubbalo *sigh*. If I dont post for the next week its because Im preping the house for "Santa" so have a merry one folks. Deez......out.
