I've been playing BF2 for quite some time, but i'm a n00b to the forums.  This topic caught my interest and I figured i'd put in my two cents.

First of all, I notice theres countless nubs who post simpleton BS for replys.  Its ovbious you all lack the ability to grasp either games merit and compare the two in a civil mannor.

First of all both games have merit, the question is which one is more?  Consider that I have been playing WoW for about 3 months now and barely touch BF2 at all anymore.  For those of you that know how WoW works, the servers shutdown every tuesday morning.  So come tuesday morning I was looking for something to do...

So I dust off the ol' joystick and pop in BF2.  Bam i'm right back in the action.  Got my rifle, gonna pwn some n00bs, gonna join up a squad that actually does stuff and have a great time!  Right?  Oh yea, I forgot that n00bs still TK for the jet, or that the J-10 still whoops on the american planes, or that most of the time people still don't know how to work as a team (don't even get me started on that commander hack BS either) ..So I get to thinking "I miss playing this game sometimes...but now that I recall the problems not so much anymore"  I had hours of fun with BF2,  I used to log on every night and play for hours.  I wasn't amazing but I did alright for myself.

But i've always been a fan of blizzard games and playing WoW for free landed in my lap so I figure what do I got to lose right?  And i've figured this out and I hope I'm not the only one.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE RPG THEN DON'T PLAY WOW.  IF U NEED PRETTY COLORS AND ARE ADD THEN PLAY FPS.

There's also a reason why I haven't touched BF2 since I got WoW...because it pretty much pwns.  You wanna cry about 15 bucks a month, hell for 15 bucks a month I get a game that works pretty damn well, can't say the same about BF2.  Its a game where people don't dread the next patch, but where things actually get better with patches.  Hell for 15 bucks a month (or about .50 cents a day) I get one of the most immersive, intricate, and indepth games on the market today.  Theres a reason why 7 million + people play it.  You might spend that 15 bucks on movies, or alcohol, or whatever, but for my 15 I get access to a damn good game.

I hear people saying how the ranking system is sorta the same.  The difference is that in WoW when I lvl up I get better, not just a higher spot on the command role.  Anyone who plays MMO knows you can't gauge the entire game with 15 hours of gameplay.  The game is very different once you hit the lvl cap.  What happens when you reach the rank cap on BF2?  nothing much really.  I can kill 50,000 enemies in BF, but when happens when I reach it.  I get a shiney medal and thats about it, no skill ups or nothing.

Now to be clear i'm not saying one is better than the other, I just wanted to make two points.

1) if you don't know what the hell your talking about, STFU
2) to each his own

I personally like WoW more because its just much deeper than playing Wake 24/7, which is pretty much what 78% of my BF2 career consisted of.  But when I get in the mood to bomb the hell outta something with a jet, I pop in BF2.
everything about what you just said tells me you have played on crappy servers.

My brother got me WoW for Xmas.. yeah I know

Played it for about an hour this morning, it's not great. Obviously it will get slightly better if I decide to carry on but it is overrated IMO, it's not a competely horrible game, but its far from being excellent.

My brother has played WoW for a year now, ever since he got his laptop last xmas.
Every day, hes playing it. Hell hes missed days at school to play it, failed his AS levels (to which hes retaking them) and just lies in his bed all day playing WoW. Hes lost a year of his life to it - and he still plays it. All day, every day.
Before now hes played it so much into the early hours of the morning, that hes fallen asleep with the laptop still running.

I know I play too much BF2, more than I should at all really, but that is just insane.
I certainly dont take time off of work or Uni to play BF2 or miss out on going out just to play BF2. Or fail exams.

Ive got old buddies on xfire who used to play 6 hours a week of CSS who are now logging up 58hours a week on WoW - and thats only when theyre on xfire. Add on all the time when they play without it.

In every online game out there, there is this view (which, from what Ive seen, is pretty accurate) that all WoW players are total nerds who know nothing of fresh air or socialising and intend on playing 50+ hours a week.
They remind me of the geeza in Oceans 12 who had locked himself in a house and hadnt been out for 10 years

It's good to know that Blizzard is making $1.260billion a year off this fucking worthless game. I think that gives them ample money to invest in better games...

Ye the key to make 1.26 billion dollars is to make a worthless game, brilliant it´s so clear now.

and you should´nt talk down on the people playing wow to much either they come from all parts of society not only so called "geeks" hell i see most people here on the forums as computer "geeks" ( yep that includes me too ) . The game is very addictive if you give it some time you will see and with time i mean days.

But i will end to say again never try out wow it won´t do much good you might need a shrink to get back on track again.

We would destroy Waste of Wages if we could bring in just 1 squad.

Quick! Hit em with your <insert magic spell here>! Damn it missed!

Boom! Headshot!

The thing that pisses me off about World of Warcraft players (about 2 players in my small clan who play it more than FPS) is that they think it takes skill to select the target, use your gear, then hope your stats kill them. With battlefield it is possible for a Private to Frag a general, impossible for a level 1 to kill a 60. Wow is a waste of time, no skill involved, and is down right useless.

meh, I left BF2 for WoW and haven't looked back.  I left before 1.4, I was tired of all of the crashes to desktop, needing to reintsall 3x after every patch, no customizability, and all of the drama with the clans that I was in.  Meh, I will play $15 a month for a much better time than I had playing BF2.

I am jack's complete lack of respect for narrowmindedness...

The spectrum that some people see (are limited too) amazes me.  Condemning a game player because he/she plays a different type of game is ridiculous.  Each to their own.  For those who can't except it, meh.

Everybody plays whatever type of game they prefer.  I enjoyed BF2 and I love FPS, yet I still stand amoungst the millions of WoW players.  You can count me amoung the RTS and sports games too.  Am I wasting my life, antisocial, uneducated, not looking into my future, or a hermit?  Not on yer life pal.

There are stereotypes on both sides of the board here.  I've got FPS friends who maintain a constant videogame tan (bleach white), and I've got MMORPG friends who need watering and reminders to eat/use the bathroom.  Who are we as gamers, to judge everyone who plays these games due to the "uber-nerds" who jack in and play for hours on end?

Anyone lambasting the $15 a month fee needs to realize that the fee is there so people don't have to pay $90 a month out of their own pockets for servers.

To pay each month for playing a game like WoW is A SUCKER BUSINESS. What are you actually paying for? Hardware is cheap.

In BF2 skill depends ONLY on what you yourself put into the game. You don't get any help from the level you are on, or for how many hours you have played, or what weapon you have bought. You ability to succeed in BF2 only depends on what you do with the mouse and keyboard in front of the screen when you play and nothing else.

I have gotten into Guild Wars, a fine MMO with no fee. The world looks great. In WoW you expect Donald Duck to pop up any moment. MMOs are more social than a shooter. It's fun to be part of a guild and do missions together. It's a fine break from a shooter, but there is no real skill involved in playing the game.

My 2 cents...

I said i was surprised SO MANY people pay 15 dollars a month to play WoW, u can do whatever the hell you want its ur perogative, but DO NOT deny me the emotion of "surprise."  So if u are ever surprised at anything it means u are narrow minded?

u question my "openmindedness" i never judged anyone for playing video games. to use that as part of your argument to get people to give you their sentiment is just pathetic.....

But sinse u braught it up ill give you my thoughts. Video games are a fun hobby, but like anything u do in life if you overdo it it can become malevolent. We all have different threasholds......how dare you try to take a shot at me with you pathetic attempt at sarcasm and even more pathetic attempt at gaining the sympathy of other posters here......

sad.

there is a lot more skill than you can imagine.  I played FPS games for about 10 years, I learned 95% of all of the skills of the games that I played and worked towards mastering them.  WoW is just a different type of skill, it is timing, knowing your pros/cons in a situation, damage management and other things.  Saying that there is 'no real skill' is just complete bs.  If that was true then every single person would be raiding Naxx, which isn't close at all.  There is a lot of skill in knowing your class, inside and out, and if you PvP you have to know how to deal with every other class in the game in various situations.  If you can't see that then your vision on different types of games is shortsighted.

I pay the $15 a month for the freedom that I get in the game, the customizability, the patches, the fixes, the constant updates -- figure you are paying $50 for BF2142...nothing more than a lame mod for BF2 and you get the same thing, plus the 'booster packs' and other crap and you are paying about the same that I am, but I guarantee I get more hours out of WoW than I did BF2 even with the 'booster packs'.

Keep in mind im a huge BF2 fan, huge! So my brother convinced me to try World of Warcraft, raving about how great it is and addictive it is. I was apprehensive, but gave it a solid go. I played for a few hours and realized that WOW is the most overrated game out!!!   I was bored out of my mind, whilst in any round of BF2 I would have led a squad, flew a jet, or drove a tank and went on several killing sprees all i did was walk around a magical forest listening to  music that only belongs in war movies...for a moment i thought the movie Gladiator was about to start.

I'm just soooo surprised people enjoy it ...some 7 million people pay 15 bucks a month to just walk around and collect stuff......not even close to BF2 in my opinion....any thoughts?
$15? Try $49.99 a month, WOW is IMO a HUGE waste of money, just imagine how much money you've spent by the time you get bored , yep a HUGE waste of money, and it sucks! If you want an RPG buy a Final Fantasy game (Except 11 which is similar to WOW), BF2 wins HANDS DOWN, It's just a lot more fun.

BTW just to mention, BF2142 was a disappointment for me, I downloaded the Demo and it sucked the weapons were crap, vehicles were crap (except the walker which was fun) and the Commander mode is horrible, overall it sucked (IMO).

I got 2 boosters for $14.99 with free shipping which = two new game modes, cheap! I wouldn't like to spend money every month for a game which will bore me in the end, but hey whatever floats your boat, my brother plays it and he's far from being a nerd like you guys call people who play WoW, he plays at most 5 hours and every few days, not everyday, I mean, yeah some guys really ARE huge geeks who spend ALL their time playing WOW, but they're a small number I guess, but whats it to you, if they're wasting their lives let them waste it, they're the ones losing not you, so be happy you're not one of them .
