Sometimes a shot from a rocket will go through the cars just like it does the helos. The hitboxes lag behind the car itself so it looks like you hit it but you don't.

Happens all the time to me, when you shoot directly at a jeep driving straight for u, the rocket always passes right through it and u end up a spot on the battlefield
