The jews in the early 1940's that something to be depressed about.  I do honestly feel bad for someone who kills themselves, but its still selfish, and it slaps people in the face who persevered through REAL horrible times such as the holocaust, or the armenien massacre,  american slaves, etc.

I was suicidal for quite a few years, damn close, gun to the head close. And I realized how fucking weak that was. how much it wouldn't solve a damn thing.   I realized what a baby i was being. and got over it.

Granted, some people are depressed for better reasons than I had, but for alot of people who commit  suicide, i bet thier lives arent that bad, and was simply an easy way out.

KEEP IN MIND, I said "alot" and not "all".

Everybody's mind works differently.  Some, when faced with depression and suicidal thoughts, will continue to fight through it, believeing that things will improve eventually.  Others see it as an escape from a life of depression, and who can blame them for wanting to take a way out of it all?  We shouldnt criticise, we should feel sorry for them because they felt the need to kill themselves, and ashamed that in today's society they were allowed to become so desparate.

I'm insensitive too. I share the same cynical outlook on society. I hate the general public, they are all complete retards and morons and deserve what's coming to them. I don't feel sorry for those kids. I'm sure if I knew them I would, but I don't know those strangers, so that gives me no right to feel for them. But back to me hating on society, almost everyone out there are complete idiots, so I have no hope for society, and people will only continue to get stupider and lose their common sense, and then it will be the end of our human species.

I guess most of this can be contributed to me having worked a fast food job. People asked the most ridiculous questions and the most retarded things that I can't believe. I worked at a chicken restaurant (not KFC) and someone once asked me, I shit you not, "How many pieces are in the eleven piece meal?". And they were serious. Another guy once laughed in disbelief and would not accept the fact that chickens have wings.

To be honest, it sounds like you are another person dissatisfied with their life, blaming it on society.  Not entirely unlike those kids in the article.  And also, these people are human beings, just like you, you really dont feel a shred of empathy for them?

The main problem, I think, is that no-one knows. If people are depressed, generally very few people know about it. This makes it exponentially worse - the feeling of isolation it gives you, and the lack of support, can drive people off the edge.

Don't prejudge. For all you know, these people might've been in worse than you or me have, and they are disgusted that someone can't cope with - what they see as - average situations.

I hope to god you never have kids, they'll probably end up killing themselves.

Living conditions aren't the governing factor of clinical depression. A millionaire can be depressed.

It's nothing to joke about or jeer at.

You're a god damn asshole that should be banned.

Americans against the war don't fucking criticize the SOLDIERS in IRAQ, they criticize the WAR ITSELF.  But here YOU are, talking shit about people which you may or may not have connections with, and still have absolutely no fucking feelings for.

Ya, I AM planning on being in the military when I'm old enough.  oh snap.  But judging from assholes like you, maybe I'll reconsider.......

Well, according to you, since I have never had clinical depression, I cannot discuss my opinion, so why not apply that to everything?

That's not entirely true. IRONCHEF did wish our soldiers death by IEDs.

And you never will, unless you've felt, thought, and gone through exactly what they have. An example.....gay men. I don't understand it and I never will. But does that make it wrong or stupid? Of course not, because I don't know what they are feeling, thinking, or going through. I don't care if you're gay by choice, by birth, by environment, or by alien implant, if I'm not in that same circumstance, I won't understand it.
I can go a step further, maybe hit some nerves, and say.....I don't understand why millions of people in this country, let alone the world, live their lives based on a book that contains writing that spans from 2000 to 4000+ years ago. Does that make them stupid and weak? I used to think so, but I stopped judging because I don't understand, and never will.

I do feel a shred of empathy, for their parents and friends and the people going through such anguish. But as for the actual kids who committed suicide, I don't.

And I am completely satisfied with my life. I hate when people blame their problems on society, and I am not one of those people. I am doing well in a good university and I'll get a decent job and be able to get married and start a family. Sure there are few minor things, no one's life is perfect, but I think I'm doing fine.

Yeah to me it doesn't seem like something to commit suicide about. I dunno what they went through but it's obvious there are people out there that are worse off than them, that's what I think when i'm down. Stuff like that makes you think, some people just can't cut it. Where's the survival instinct gone, where's the fighting spirit... too many people give up so easily these days. It's a shame really...

I agreed with that, people just seem to give too easily. Here in Brazil its not hard to find poor people, fighting everyday to survive. Begging in street corners and stop lights, collecting cans and cardboard for recycling barefoot every single day. Such incredibly hard life, but nevertheless fighting to live every single day. When I compare these people to these kids who kill themselves or start shooting people in school, I feel that there is something very wrong with American society. Please, don't start flaming this isn't a critic, its an opinion. And yes, I have lived many years in the US.

I can ask...in your military life, do you respond to every order your superior officer 'barks' at you? In "real life" I'll bet you'd deck the guy. I know I would.
You're conditioned to respond that way. Kind of like Pavlov's Dog. Death is NOT the same in the military as it is in regular life. If it were, our military would probably consist of about 600 people.
