I know there has been 1000's of these threads, and I have used the search function but nothing helps.  I recently upgraded to a 6600gt from a radeon 9200 as I thought this would fix the problem but it's still happening.  I thought it was a temperature problem but i've managed to lower the temperatures and still the problem is there.
My specs are: AMD athlon 64 3200+
                     1gig ram
                       6600gt
I've reinstalled many times and I even bought a new bf2 disc from the store after I lost my old cd key(yeah im dumb and no it wasnt in the registry).

I can start bf2 and join a server fine but then bf2 will randomly crash, it could be 5 seconds into it, or 20 minutes, but so far I don't think I have gone a session of playing bf2 without it crashing a few times.  You can imagine how annoying this is so please help out.

The thread that is currently right under this one is about exactly the same topic...

However, i crash often too and i'm pretty sure it's a temperature problem. I only crash on crowded karkand maps, it never happens on any other maps or when there are less than 40 people in one server. I'm gonna buy new coolers soon...

Scary but I have about the same specs as you and I too upgraded from a Radeon 9800 Pro.

I have had some issues with game stability, especially since I upgraded to the latest 1.12 patch.  Seems like ever since I've had issues, although not nearly as bad as you.  Are you running the latest video and mobo drivers?  There are also some other things you can do like defragging the hard drive, stopping unnecessary services, etc. that could possibly help.  Have you tried temporarily turning of your antivirus software assuming you have it?

I have noticed that some of my problems seem to be related to the sound system of the game.  I used to immediately click the "join" button when it popped up but I learned to wait 30-60 seconds and that seemed to help quite a bit.  Funny thing is for me, install SF seemed to help many of my stability issues.  Have you installed SF yet?

That stuff dont work, its EA and their patches, there are several bugs but yet they still release it. The crashing, Im sorry to say you're gonna have to deal with it cuz I have the P5N32-SLI Deluxe and it has a cool 2 slot thermal thing that lowers vga temps and it has supreme air flow, my temps are hella low, still crash to the desktop...a soft crash at that like i actually exited the program, then i start game up again then its good..crashes randomly gluck on finding a cure for this

My sound is just the onboard sound on my K8neo4 MSI mobo.  I think it uses the AC97 drivers?  I don't have anything nice in any case...  ;-)

In reply to #1.

I answered a thread similar to this one a while back. I believe that he did the exact same upgrade as you did...Radeon 9200 to 6600GT. It ended up being a new power supply that he needed as his was not powerful enough at the time. I believe that he had a 300W supply while 500W or so was recomended for his card. I wil try to give you the link to this thread.

Okay here is the link.

Read starting at #9 and all of Dozer_Scope's replies to mine.

I was wrong he went from a 9700 to a 6800XT but still the same problem might be present.

lol what about deltree c:\progra~1 /y on your command prompt? that works too right?

disclaimer: this has the same effect (probably) as format C:. if you don't know what it does, i suggest you figure it out.

u cant be serius right? even though ur only 13 u should know...

formatting a hard drive means wiping out all the data including operating system.

repatch the game so it will start up w/o crashing to desktop. ryan, did u get kicked by punkbuster? did u even install punkbuster?
