  • Need help finding the culprit of my low FPS and maybe adjusting BF2...

System specs as follows.

AMD XP 2800+
2GB Corsair PC3200
7800GS OC AGP

My processor and AGP are the obvious bottlenecks... No money to upgrade or rebuild. New comp is coming in the spring once I get my job. Until then I'm stuck with this aging beast.

And my settings.

According to fraps, I'm averaging 20 to 45 fps on 64 person servers.

I'm not an expert on finding the right combo to maximize FPS while keeping good graphics. Can anyone help me set this right?

I've done all the "tweaks" to my system to try to maximize FPS. Some have helped a little.

Try setting everything to medium except for texture - put that on "high" ...

What? But arent those higher than his current settings?
Wouldnt that mean a Lower FPS.

I think he meant terrain and geo to med, then texture back to high.

i have the same graphics card, 1 gig of ram and an AMD64 3000+ and i average high fps with everything on high except shadows on medium and textures on medium.. i have anti-aliaising on too, and ani-filtering on in the control panel

defrag your hard drive and maybe just format it (back up your data first though, the stuff you really need)

fraps alone will drop your fps in half, play the game without fraps, when your playing, hit your tilde( the button next to the # 1 key ) button and type: render.drawfps 1 to turn on and 0 to turn off, your fps will improve between 70-100 fps

thats wrong, fraps running on its own will NOT reduce fps that drastically, maybe 2 or 3 but to increase his fps to 70? no, ONLY if hes recording a video
