After recent events, I have decided to post a limited apology.
I do not apologise for what I did.
I do, however, apologise to anyone who felt that I insulted them, living relatives who are currently serving or have previously served in the armed forces, or dead relatives who served in the armed forces.
My post was not meant to say that they are in any way similar to those who committed the Sept 11, 2001 attacks. Rather, it was meant to point out that some would view it that way, and, further, some would view them as bad guys. I wanted to make this point due to certain members who continually suggest that all members of the US armed forces, or the armed forces of any state, are somehow beyond criticism.
Could I have chosen to approach the matter differently? Yes, I could have. However, I felt an example would be best, that it would demonstrate that there was an inverse to the view being expressed. Perhaps I was wrong. Regardless, the thread was misinterpreted. Could I have chosen to approach the matter at a different time? Yes, I could have. However, several things are worth noting: first, from my point of view, it was the 8th of December. Secondly, there have been significant military events throughout just about every day of the year: I do not make a point of tracking them all. Having said that, I do apologise for the timing.
In short: I do not apologise for what I did, but I do make a limited apology covering some of the effects.
