I patch 1.06.

And now I can't open the game. It gives me the splash screen and nothing else. In the taskmanager I can see the process crashing about 2 seconsd after the splash screen disappears.

Something up?

Rename your videos with new extensions, .bikk or something to that effect. That way it skips the intro movies, which may be where it's crashing.

And yes I've done that. I did it after I first got it.

I cant run 2142 for a while after closing it, make sure nothing else is running, and check the cpu perhaps something is running in the background. Other than re start if that doesnt work you can only try re installing the patch, failing that re instal the game. If that doesnt work then its something far more sinister, but before we worry about that try the re installs, if they dont work then perhaps I can help you further.

I've tried repatching, and for some reason it says 'You have a newer version installed', and stops me patching. I'll try the reinstall now (once I back up my localization files)

You're not a dumbass... in today's computing, restarting is become less and less important, so it's much easier to forget to consider doing it.

No, it comes up. But nothing happens after that.

I've checked the taskmanager and the process 'bf2142.exe' is crashing just after the splash screen.

I remember having this problem with BF2 before, I'm not sure what it is. Try making a shortcut for the game like ctrl+alt+l or something, then using that to start the game.
