i remember the first time i had more than a beer or small shot. Last year; 14, and my 20 year old cousin who was livin here brings home a 12-pack of moosehead and a 40 of grey goose and the parents are out for the week. i funnel 4 beers, and take about 1/3 the vodka bottle's worth in jello shooters, plus some whiskey; all in less than an hour. My fucking god was i wasted, and as expected i blew chunks shortly after...with my friend on the phone right next to me.
Im an odd one. Im not a beer person; Moosehead or keiths are the only beers where i can stomach more than 2. Despite this, i often drink multiple hard shots (40%+) straight with no dilution, and mixed drinks arent all they are made up to be I can only say my liver will be fucked up by the time im in my 30's.

I love beer, it's incredibly refreshing. When I first tried it I didn't like it that much either - it's an aquired taste.

As for the taste, you probably didn't like it because your taste buds haven't developed yet. When you get older you'll like the more sour and bitter alcohol, rather than drinks like Vodka Cruisers, which are aimed at young kids imo anyway.

For vodka, I'll usually skip the part where I put it into the shot glass. Although that's a bad idea... threw up for the first time drinking after doing that (the 'friendly' encouragement I was getting didn't really help either).N00bkilla55404 wrote:

Guinness isn't really a "my first beer" beer...I don't think many people would like it when younger.
I take it you haven't had wine either since you said this was your first real drink? Red Wine can still have a pretty strong taste to it, though it also does kinda taste like grape juice...
But many will likely taste as bad as beer to you (though a different bad )
In fact a couple a week is supposed to be good for you...
So I drink a couple more then that to cancel it out and start back where I was in the first place

OK, here's what to do: Buy some shitty beer that isn't really beer (Mike's, Zima, etc.) and get used to that. It tastes like fuckin candy until you get used to real beer (then it tastes like shit). After that move onto shitty, water-down beer (MGD, Busch, Bud, etc.). This is what you'll spend most of your time getting drunk off because it's cheap and when you're to old to get drunk you'll be tired of it. After that you can move onto real beer (thousands of good options...).
*Note: there may be a year or two where you go through a "hard-A" only phase just before you hit "water-down beer" phase. Which is completely normal.
And no, you won't get addicted to it unless you have SERIOUS self-control issues. This is no heroin. All you hear about are the bad stories you don't hear about millions of people who drink and get drunk ever once and a while just for fun.
I was LITTERALY just where you were when I was your age. I wasn't interested in drinking because I've heard all the bad stories (my dad and brother both got caught up in alcohol. I can remeber being young and my dad driving my brother and me home while he was drunk - so I'd say I have some first-hand experience) and I didn't want that to be me.
P.S. I am currently in the "water-down" phase. I'm currently in college and I'd be surprised if I go a weekend without getting drunk. What's more, in no way would I call myself addicted. I could probably go the rest of my life without a beer. But why would I? It's so much fun!

All alcohol is an acquired taste. I had my first drink when I was like 6, yet I didn't like any kind of beer until I was about 18-19. Don't take Guinness as a template to what beer tastes like, it has a very unique strong flavour which takes some time getting used to. Try some lighter beers or ales, or mixed spirits.
