1. Obama kicking ass and taking names.

2. Kosovo declaring independence.

3. Fidel Castro resigned.

4. Violence down in Iraq, by a LOT.

5. Writers stike ended.. which means five more episodes of Lost this season.  (Sorry, ok, that ones not too important)

Do you think things are looking better for the future?  Looking worse?  Looking like the same?  Why?

For the first time in a long, long time, I'm feeling happy about what's going on.  The future looks bright, to me neway.

Situations don't change, headlines do. If you can't find anything wrong with the world you aren't looking hard enough.

Didnt say the worlds going to be perfect

But compared to the past 3-4 years, things are looking a lot better.  It's all about context.  The world will never be perfect.

Wait a sec, you won the lottery?  Or are you just wishing you did?  With the exception of the economy, yes, the future is looking good.

There is a kid starving to death in Africa right now, his mother is watching and he can't do anything about it.

There is a woman being beaten in Southeast Asia right now, but there is no where she can turn.

There is a young adult in the U.S. right now who has completely screwed their life over because of cocaine right now, and they will spend the rest of their life, however long it may be, paying for the consequences.

When it's all put in perspective, it doesn't much matter what asshole is being put in charge of our nukes or what you're going to be chatting about over the water cooler tomorrow at work.

You seem to be implying as though I don't know people are suffering around the world.

I'm saying, compared to the PAST FEW YEARS, the future is looking better than what it is now.

And yes, it does matter.  I'm sorry you think that.  It matters very, very much who's president of the United States.

I know that you understand the fact that there are people suffering around the world. You can spit out facts about human starvation, poverty, human-rights violations, but I don't think you understand what that really means. Nothing pisses me off more than when someone hears a story about a brutal murder or rape and acts all sad about it. Didn't you realize that it was going on before? Isn't that happening all around the world at that very moment? Why does that instance touch you so much? Out of sight, out of mind, it's disgusting.

I'm saying in the big picture nothing significant has changed over the past few years.

It matters that there is not a monkey in the White House, and that's about as far as it goes. Despite what people may think about Bush, or the opposing party, it just doesn't make that much difference who is in office, they all react relatively the same way and have people behind them if they truly fall down on the job. Don't go thinking that just because I feel who is President (out of our current choices anyways)doesn't make much difference that I won't be voting.

Yes, but hope and a dream is how it all starts. All journeys begin with a single step and the only places worth going to are difficult to reach.  I know that is 'motivational' sounding hoohaw but I truly believe in it.  I think Obama's greatest asset is he's inspiring some folks to dream again of what can be.

The future looks bright, but that's because we've been in such a shithole lately, so basically a lot of things are going to look better than what we've got now. Oh well, hopefully this means we're climbing out of the shit hole.

It looks like Obama is quickly gaining on McCain.  Give it a few months.  Obama may actually win this.

All I know that no matter who becomes the next president, they're going to be better than Bush.

And as for flaming maniac.  So what if I'm wrong.  Isn't false hope better than no hope?  Honestly if everyone looked for reasons to be depressed the world would be pretty shitty.  I know I used to do that a lot, but for me, no more.  And I completely agree with you -- people who pretend to care about suffering in other parts of the world just so they can say they care are idiots.  But sitting on your ass and feeling bad about it is a lot worse than sitting on your ass and feeling hopeful for change, like me

It's really corny, and people say this all the time, but sometimes you really have to look at what can happen rather than what can't.
