I think ive about hit my limit of mouse plane flying eliteness, so its about time to get a joystick.

Looking for some recommendations for good bf2 worthy joysticks. Ill probably be looking to spend no more than 100 US dollars, whats my best bet?

My Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 does me just fine. I'm pretty sure M$ discontinued their Sidewinder products though, but you can still find them around:

Most notably I like the nice wide base that keeps it from tipping over when you jerk from one side to the other. My friend has a wireless Logitech joystick that tips constantly unless your free hand is holding the base (when it should be free for throttling and such).

Logitech® Extreme™ 3D Pro is what I use to fly. Plenty of buttons for your needs and great handling.  Got my friend to get one as well, not that it improved her jet skills much

Keyboard and mouse

EDIT: And ranked 3xxx aviator right now.  You do not NEED a joystick.

I use a Saitek x52 Flight Control System. Around 100, and I love it. I'm not a ace pilot by no means but it will never tip or slide due to the 4 suction feet on the base of each the throttle and stick. Takes up alot of room but I don't have a problem with it. Whichever you choose though, make sure it is USB. From what I've read, Bf2 only supports USB controllers.

Good luck!

Another vote for the Logitech Extreme 3d pro.

Took me a while to set up my buttons for my personal taste, but now it is second nature.

Very sturdy on the desk so I can one hand it when I need to do something on the keyboard.

I have the Saitek X52.  Very programable and looks really cool on your desktop too!  Lots of programable buttons, HATS, Switches, scroll, mouse, etc.  Stick has twist also for rudder control.  Real nice.

I also got the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I tested joysticks out in the store and the Saitek one just felt a little weird for me. The Logitech felt perfect in my hand. Plenty of buttons and nice twist handle. All for under 30 bucks. I'm doing so much better with my new joystick than I was with my old GamersFactory joystick without a twist handle. I made a movie yesterday of me flying the jet with it. Here, check it out:

I've got Logitech Wingman Force 3D.. Nice, many buttons. No problems however it needs regular calibration.

But my next joystick will be Saitek as it works better.

But what really makes gaming cool is this..

Logitech G5 Laser 2000dpi...

My conclusion about joysticks and mouses..
Joystick -> Saitek
Mouse -> Logitech

i use saitek cyborg evo and i am very satisfied as i was flying with only keyboard (it worked nice too)

and very nice flying trice

one question, did you mess with the sensitivity? i use saitek cyborg evo and i can't move as fast as you do with my joystick. and of course i got mine with default sensitivity

I don't know about those saitek joysticks, I was looking at them a few weeks ago in the electronics store, and they just looked like they would fall apart. The buttons practically peeled off just looking at them. I ended up getting a Logitech Freedom 2.4 which is made of aluminum and strong plastic. I can't have my joystick falling apart mid-game, heh.

x52...although as mentioned before the suction cups don't always prevent it from sliding...highly recommend it

I have the Saitek Cyborg Evo and now I am slowly raising my Kill to Death ratio with jets because of it.  My first half a hundred deaths were from attempting to use a mouse and keyboard.  Now I am killing more than I am dying.  Also, never bind eject on your joystick, you are apt to press by accident at the most inopportune time.

I just love the Cyborg Evo's adjustability and it's one of the only few awesome ambidextrous joysticks out on the market, just by flipping the handrest and adjusting the tilt of the trigger and buttons; so left-handed people can rejoice!

Saitek X45 USB combo, got it on ebay for 35.00 and change (included shipping). It is a referbished model from the factory and it has not given me one bit of problems. I have 2 MS Sidewinders (Precision Pro's) and I did not have good results with them. (Non-USB)

So up until now we have:

Logitech Force 3D Pro,
Logitech Freedom 2.4, ___________ Someone said something bad about it :-/ Someone said it was good...
Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless _______ Someone said its not reliable and that it needs batteries which bugs
Saitek Cyborg Evo Force __________ Someone said isn't smooth in spring action
Saitek Cyborg Evo _______________ Someone said is the best Evo
Saitek x52 ____________________ Someone recommended it highly
Saitek x45 ____________________ Someone said its damn good but x52 is better (and more expensive)

So which is the best (for BF only not fly simulators as they are to slow for me...)?

can't beat a good joystick for dogfighting, but...

i firmly believe that mouse is better for ground attack. it's more precise when you're aiming at something to shoot at. that's why i fly helos with my mouse instead of my cyborg evo, because helos spend most of their time in ground attack.

saitek sticks are pretty sturdy, to respond to the previous post about them looking like they would fall apart. the adjustable stick head on the syborg evo is a great piece of design, puts logitech to shame.

my vote goes to the normal cyborg evo, not force, and not wireless. wireless is not as reliable and needs batteries, and the force feedback version isn't as smooth with its spring action.

i've got the Saitek X45, real nice system. you can bind any key to it, for example on my BF2 profile for it i've got it to where i can check score/squad screen and use the commo rose, accept/decline orders and operate Xfire's push to talk button all from the joystick. it's not as bad ass as the X52, but hell, the X45 is real nice, way cheaper than the X52.

I rank 450th at aviator and have nearly a 6 K/D ratio...
I use my no-name keyboard and my logitech MX 510 mouse...
Joystick is for l4m3rs, who aren´t skilled enough to fly with keyboard/ mouse.... hehe...
