Is Kyle Petty thinking of hanging up his helmet?
If you had asked me that question 2 weeks ago, my response would have been "no, but he needs to consider it." It seems that this comming weekend in Texas, Kyle will not be in the car. It was announced today that Chad McCumbee (NCS driver, 2 starts in Cup) would be attempting to qualify the car at Texas this weekend. No reason was given for Kyle stepping out of the 45, but he is to be there in the garage/pit area during the weekend. Last season, Kyle also got a taste of the booth for 5 or so races. Those dates were announced and known well in advance of the Daytona 500 last year. I personally think Kyle has a future in the booth. His comments/commentary last year were spot on and honest. It was refreshing really. Ever watch him on "Tradin' Paint" ? He makes the show.
The 45 car currently sits 40th in points and must qualify on time. The team missed the race at Martinsville this past weekend.
Opinions?
More goings on at Petty Enterprises:
**Rumor Mill**
A large Financial firm is looking into picking up 50-ish % of Petty Enterprises.
I've been expecting this really. When Evranham did it, it was/is just a matter of time...look at all the other teams that have so far.
General Mills is leaving Petty Enterprises at the end of the 08' season.
They will sponsor the 33 RCR team beginning in 09'. No driver has been named as of now. So who is on the short list...hmm ?
Biffles contract at Roush is up at the end of this year, but he claims to be confident about an extension. He could be blowing smoke up everyones arse too. Richard Childress is a master at that stuff, I've seen him pull off crazy shit before.
Now, normally for almost any other team (Petty) I wouldnt think a whole lot about this stuff, its just the goings on in the bussiness that is NASCAR.
But Petty? I know they really dont run that well, and his name sells sponsors without being competitive. But Petty??
I dunno, it just seems like an icon of this sport is about to fade away...
Not sure I'm good with that really hehe.
