Hardcore servers and silencers.

I try play only on hardcore servers because I think there more fun but ive noticed what
I think is something weird. Why do people use silencers on these servers? There is
no mini map to give your position away and they reduce the weapons range.

I think its really weird, does anyone here do that. Maybe im missing something!?
Not one of my weapons have silencers fitted

Just seemed weird to me, id rather the red dot anyday especially with no radar to worry about.

Well if someone puts a UAV up you will be visible when you shoot. And 3 kills in a row are really easy to get. If you play anything but S&D there will be a UAV pretty much constantly so its like its not hardcore at all.
On S&D there will be at least 2 UAVs per round. Smart people usually save it for when the bomb is planted or there are not much people alive.

Most good players rely on sound. Silencer makes you hard to hear.

As to red dot > silencer... dunno bout that. I would say they have equal advantages.

in bf2 only tweakers relied on sound cept for nade sound

Im drawn towards gunfire in the game but wouldnt rely on it, the hit indications are a bit more accurate imo.

iron sights block the area beneath where you are aiming though, whereas red dot you can see the area around where you are aiming

The silencer attachment also reduces weapon kick so it's easier to get back on target, at least that is what i have noticed. The P90 is the most to benefit from it as it kicks up and to the right without the silencer and has almost no kick with it.

Plus, with it being quiet a lot of players don't even know where they are being hit from until it's too late for them to do something about it. I have 5.1's as do a lot of people and I can hear where shots are coming from pretty easily when they don't have the silencer.

i'm fairly certain that that's psychological, there is reduced muzzle flash and sound and therefore you 'feel' more in control and probably are

i've noticed it in many games...

There is more muzzle flash and more noise with out silencer. A lot of times you can figure out where people are just from where the shots are being fired and the flash of their gun against the wall.

But your position is given away by the UAV the silencer wont help much.
